Liberia is served by Guanacaste Airport (LIR), also known as Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport, located just outside town. The regions beaches and resorts are typically reached in about 30 minutes to just over an hour by taxi, shuttle, or rental car, which are available on arrival. As the main gateway to northwestern Costa Rica, it offers quick, convenient access to the Pacific coast of Guanacaste.

Start in the town itself, strolling the shaded Parque Central, visiting the historic La Agonia church, and sampling Guanacaste specialties at a traditional soda. The towns relaxed pace and sabanero heritage offer a genuine slice of rural Costa Rican life.

The real draw lies just beyond Liberia. Golden-sand beaches such as Playa Hermosa, Playas del Coco, and Playa Tamarindo invite swimming, surfing, and sunset strolls, while sheltered bays are ideal for snorkeling, diving, and sailing. Liberia is one of the hottest and sunniest parts of Costa Rica, with a hot, dry season from roughly December through April and a greener, more humid season from May to November.
