Basic

Basic offers lower fares with limited flexibility. Ideal for travelers with firm plans who aren’t concerned with benefits like seat selection, same-day changes or mileage accrual. Available only for Delta Main.

Classic

Classic gives you more freedom and flexibility. It includes advance seat selection, mileage accrual, eCredits for cancellations and Same-Day Standby.

Extra

Extra maximizes travel with enhanced amenities and offers you the most flexibility. Get all the benefits of Classic, plus refund options, boosted mileage accrual, Same-Day Confirmed flight changes and more.*

What do these products (cabin/seating) and Travel Experience (fare type) name changes mean for Delta customers?

We’re giving new names to the same great experiences.

Main Cabin → Delta Main
Delta Comfort+ → Delta Comfort
First Class → Delta First
Delta Premium Select and Delta One® remain unchanged

These are naming changes only and do not affect your in-flight experience.

How do these changes affect what's included in each Travel Experience (fare type)?

You can get the benefits you’ve become accustomed to when you book Classic —seat selection, no-fee cancellation and Same-Day Standby.

Extra gets you more than Classic or our previous Refundable ticket option. With Extra, you can enjoy full refundability if you decide to cancel, earlier boarding, free Same-Day Confirmed options and more miles earned.

How do these new Travel Experiences (fare types) affect my upgrade priority?

Each experience (Basic, Classic and Extra) offers different benefits when it comes to upgrade eligibility and priority:

Extra provides enhanced upgrade priority over Classic and Refundable tickets
Classic maintains standard eligibility for upgrades
Basic is not eligible for upgrades

We determine your position on the upgrade list using these factors in order:

Medallion Status (Diamond, Platinum, Gold, Silver)
Product purchased (Delta One, Delta First, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort, Delta Main)
Million Miler status
Experience type (Extra, then Classic and Refundable)
Additional tie-breakers (Delta SkyMiles Reserve American Express Card, Corporate travelers, MQDs, Date and time of request)

Ex. A Diamond Medallion with the Classic experience will still be prioritized over any Platinum, Gold or Silver Medallions, even if those members purchased the Extra experience. A Diamond Medallion with Extra will be prioritized over Diamonds who purchased Classic.

Medallion Members and qualifying Delta SkyMiles American Express Card Members are eligible for complimentary upgrades to Delta First and Delta Comfort, as well as to domestic Delta Premium Select and domestic Delta One on flights within the U.S. 50, subject to availability.^†

Will standard service offerings (e.g., free carry-on bags, complimentary in-flight entertainment, in-flight food and beverage service) now be subject to additional fees?  

No; there will be no changes to in-flight service and offerings under the new experience. You will continue to receive the same warm, elevated service, regardless of your Travel Experience.

How will this work if I purchase a ticket now and fly before the service shift in October? 

When you book tickets to fly between now and September 30, 2025, you may see our new product names, but there will be no difference in your booking or travel experience.

When you book tickets to fly on or after October 1, 2025, you will see the new Basic, Classic or Extra Travel Experience options available for selection.

Can I modify my selected product (cabin/seating) experience post-purchase?  

You can upgrade your onboard seat product but cannot change your Travel Experience (fare). For example, when you purchase Delta Main Classic, you can change to any other Classic product (ex. Delta Comfort Classic) subject to the difference in fare, however you cannot downgrade your experience to Delta Main Basic (Basic Economy) or upgrade to Delta Main Extra.

Can I book the Extra experience using my miles?

No, when you purchase an Award Ticket using your miles, the Extra experience is not available; however, the Classic experience is available for purchase using miles.

When you use your miles for Award Travel, you’ll enjoy free mileage redeposits when you cancel your Award Ticket (excluding Delta Main Basic (Basic Economy) Award Tickets) for travel originating in the United States and Canada to anywhere in the world, as well as mileage upgrade awards.

Do these changes impact my Delta SkyMiles® American Express Card benefits?

No, these changes will have no impact on your Delta SkyMiles American Express Card benefits. While the names of our Onboard Experience products are changing, this will not change or restrict the benefits you currently receive as a Card Member.

Priority Boarding

Card Members are entitled to receive Zone 5 Priority Boarding on Delta flights. Benefit is limited to Basic Card Members (not Additional Card Members) with the Delta SkyMiles Gold, Platinum or Reserve Cards. Reservation must include the Basic Card Member's SkyMiles number. Zone 5 Priority Boarding is also available for passengers traveling in the same reservation as the Basic Card Member. Maximum nine passengers per reservation receive the Zone 5 Priority Boarding. Zone 5 Priority Boarding will only be available on Delta and Delta Connection carrier operated flights. Delta does not offer Zone 5 Priority Boarding on Delta Shuttle® flights. New Card Members and Card Members upgrading from another Delta SkyMiles American Express Card will be eligible for the Priority Boarding benefit after receiving their Card from American Express. Upgrade Priority

Delta SkyMiles® Reserve and Reserve Business American Express Basic Card Members have access to Upgrade Priority within the Delta SkyMiles Complimentary Upgrade Program.
