Understanding Changes & Refunds


Explore and understand the cost associated with changing or canceling your flight, which may vary depending on your ticket type. If your ticket is non-refundable, you will see the word ‘Nonrefundable’ next to the cabin name in My Trips. If you do not see the copy, your ticket may be a refundable (FLEX) ticket. Please note that Basic Economy fare is Non-refundable and Non-changeable.

Within 24 hours of your domestic flight, you can make a Same-Day Ticket Change in some instances. Find information on how to make a Same-Day Confirmed or Same-Day Standby change.


Cancel a Ticket


24-Hour Risk-Free Cancellation
If you’re within 24 hours of purchasing your ticket, you can cancel your flight without a penalty when you book directly with Delta.

Cancel Your Non-refundable Ticket
If you purchased a non-refundable ticket other than a Basic Economy fare, you can still cancel your flight and can receive an eCredit, if applicable. Learn more about canceling a ticket.

Cancel Your Refundable Ticket or Other Purchase

Region-Specific Compensation Requests


Things don't always go as planned. If your travel plans from a city located in the EU were disrupted, you may be entitled to a refund or compensation for additional costs.

You may request refund of any unused portion of your ticket in the following cases:

  • Your flight was overbooked and you were involuntarily denied boarding
  • Your flight was cancelled
  • Your flight was delayed for more than 5 hours

You may request a partial refund if you were placed in a lower class of service than you purchased.

Please note:

  • If you purchased your ticket from a travel agent, please contact your travel agent. For tickets bought from an airline other than Delta, please contact that airline.
  • Forms of Payment: Please allow seven business days for the refund to show on your online statement or two billing cycles for it to be displayed on printed statements
    • Tickets paid for by credit card will be refunded to the credit card account used to purchase the ticket, typically within seven business days of Delta's initial receipt of the refund request, up to two credit card billing cycles
    • Tickets paid for by cash or a check will be refunded to the person named as the passenger on the ticket, typically within 20 business days of Delta’s initial receipt of the refund request
    • Note: International refunds may take longer due to local banking procedures
