Puerto Plata Activities

From swimming, shopping and golfing to Latin dancing and museums, Puerto Plata offers something for everyone. Take a morning stroll on one of the area's many white sand beaches. Go back through time with a visit to San Felipe Fort, one of the oldest, colonial-period, military fortresses in the Caribbean, dating back to 1577. Ride a cable car to the top of Mount Isabel de Torres Mountain for a beautiful panoramic view of the ocean and surrounding area.

A popular activity January through early April is whale watching in Samana Bay, about a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Puerto Plata. For thrill seekers, Puerto Plata offers scuba diving, snorkeling, windsurfing and kiteboarding, and Ocean World Adventure Park is on the outskirts of the city. And, if you’re feeling lucky, Puerto Plata is home to several casinos.

Shopping

If you love shopping for souvenirs, Puerto Plata has you covered. In addition to the many markets and shops, Puerto Plata is known for its significant amounts of amber, and the Amber Museum features amber jewelry of all kinds.

Dining & Drinks

For dining and entertainment, head out to Cabarete Bay, where the entire beach strip is lined with restaurants, or dance the night away in the resort town of Sosua, described as a town that never sleeps.
