Can I Cancel/Change My Flight Without Fees?


Basic Economy tickets purchased after April 30, 2021 are final and are not changeable or refundable after the expiration of the 24-Hour Risk-Free Cancellation period, unless Delta has already made a significant change that has impacted your upcoming flight.

We understand that your plans may change, enjoy more peace of mind with no change fees when you purchase Main Cabin, Delta Comfort+, First Class, Delta Premium Select or Delta One on flights originating from North America. As a reminder, Basic Economy tickets purchased after April 30, 2021 are final, meaning these tickets are not changeable or refundable. For all Delta tickets where travel begins outside of North America, we continue to offer waived change fees except for Basic Economy fares, which are not changeable. 

With no change fees, you have the flexibility to change the date, time or location of your trip prior to departure without a fee. Sometimes, your new flight may cost more than your original flight. In this case you would need to pay the difference in price.

We know that there may be times where you need to cancel your trip and rebook at a later date. Please bear in mind that tickets not changed or canceled prior to departure will have no remaining value. The good news is that you will not be charged a fee for canceling your ticket and your ticket will become an eCredit that you can use at any time before your ticket expires* (typically one year from the date of purchase). *For additional flexibility, all tickets expiring in 2021 and all new tickets purchased in 2021 will expire on December 31, 2022.  

Tickets purchased directly from Delta, including Basic Economy fares, are included in our 24-Hour Risk-Free Cancellation policy. This means you have up to 24 hours after booking to cancel your ticket for any reason and receive a full refund with no change or cancellation fees. If you booked your Basic Economy ticket on or before April 30, 2021, you may be eligible to change or cancel your ticket after expiration of the Risk-Free Cancellation window.

Tickets Purchased After April 30, 2021

Basic Economy purchases are final, meaning they are not changeable or refundable after expiration of the Risk-Free Cancellation period unless Delta has already made a significant change that has impacted your upcoming flight. You will not receive an eCredit upon cancellation. 

How to Cancel Your Flight:

  • To cancel* your flight, visit My Trips on delta.com and click on "Modify Flight" then choose "Start Flight Cancellation."

*Cancellation beyond 24 hours after booking your Basic Economy ticket will result in a loss of value for your ticket. 

Tickets Purchased On or Before April 30, 2021

For customers who purchased a Basic Economy ticket under our COVID-19 travel waivers on or before April 30, 2021, you may make changes* or may cancel your ticket and receive an eCredit. 

How to Change Your Flight: 

  • To change your flight, visit My Trips on delta.com, select the flight you wish to change and then click on "Modify Flight."   
  • Choose "Start Flight Change" and select which flight you would like to change to search for a new flight.  

How to Cancel Your Flight:

  • To cancel your flight, visit My Trips on delta.com and click on "Modify Flight" then choose "Start Flight Cancellation."
  • You may cancel your flight before departure and apply any unused value of the ticket toward the purchase of a new ticket for a period of one year from the original issue date.

*Some Basic Economy tickets originating from Europe, Africa, and other international markets may be changeable for a fee. Check the ticket restrictions for details.

There are no change fees for tickets originating in North America to anywhere in the world and from the Caribbean to the United States or Mexico. However, Basic Economy tickets purchased after April 30, 2021 are final, meaning these tickets are not changeable or refundable.

We have waived change fees for Main Cabin, Delta Comfort+, First Class, Delta Premium Select, and Delta One tickets** purchased on or after May 1, 2021.

If you select a new flight that is less than the price of your original flight, you will receive an eCredit for the difference that you can redeem toward future travel.
For any ticket purchased on or before April 30, 2021, you can cancel your flight prior to departure, and you will receive an eCredit for the value of your ticket. For Basic Economy tickets purchased after April 30, 2021, the purchase is final, meaning any changes and refunds are not available after expiration of the 24-Hour Risk-Free Cancellation period. Cancellations after expiration of the Risk-Free Cancellation period will result in a loss of value for your ticket.
