Frequent flyer Program Benefits

  • What Does The Frequent Flyer Partnership With Virgin Atlantic Mean for Me?

    This partnership allows SkyMiles® members to earn and use miles with our newest partner airline, Virgin Atlantic. Members also will enjoy more flight options and an expanded network.

    As a SkyMiles member, you also will earn Medallion® Qualification Miles (MQMs) on eligible Virgin Atlantic flights.

    Additionally, you can use miles for an Award Ticket on Virgin Atlantic or any of our other airline partners.

  • On what flights will I be able to accrue and redeem miles?

    Members will be able to earn miles on all Delta- and Virgin Atlantic-marketed flights as long as the flight is operated by Delta, Delta Connection®,  or Virgin Atlantic.

    Additionally, members may redeem miles for flights operated by Virgin Atlantic, subject to availability. You can book available Virgin Atlantic flights on delta.com. Or, you may also call Delta Reservations to book a flight. Please note that ticketing fees may apply.

  • Will I receive Medallion benefits when traveling on Virgin Atlantic flights?

    If you are a Diamond, Platinum or Gold Medallion member traveling on a Virgin Atlantic-operated flight, you can expect to receive the following benefits:

  • Match Elite Status?

    SkyMiles and Flying Club are independent programs, and you will not be able to combine your miles into one account. We also currently do not offer a status match for any of the Virgin Atlantic Flying Club tiers.

  • Can I Redeem Miles for a Seat in Virgin Atlantic's Premium Economy Cabin?

    SkyMiles members can now use miles for Award Tickets in Virgin Atlantic’s Premium Economy cabin.

  • Do I get SkyTeam® Elite Plus/Elite benefits on Virgin Atlantic?

    Virgin Atlantic is not a SkyTeam partner, and therefore, SkyTeam benefits do not apply. Here are more details about the benefits you receive when flying Virgin Atlantic.

  • Do I Receive the same Benefits on Virgin Atlantic as on Virgin Australia?

    Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Australia are separate companies, and therefore, the benefits and mileage earning and redemption policies vary. Please visit our partner airline page for more information.

Booking a Flight

  • How do I Book a Virgin Atlantic Flight?

    You may book a Virgin Atlantic flight at delta.com. Just look for “Operated by: Virgin Atlantic” when searching for your flight. Note that you will have the opportunity to select a seat for your Virgin Atlantic flight within 90 days of departure.

  • How will I know if I'm on a Flight Operated by Virgin Atlantic?

    During the booking process, look for “Operated by: Virgin Atlantic” noted near the flight number. If you have already booked your flight, this indication will appear under the flight information within My Trips on delta.com.

Seats/Check-in/Boarding/Baggage

  • How Do I Select My Seat For A Virgin Atlantic Operated Flight?

    After purchasing your flight, you will have the opportunity to select a seat. You may select a seat online for free¹ once check in opens 24 hours before your flight. If you prefer, you may select your seat up to 336 days before your flight for a fee¹.  If you are a SkyMiles® Diamond or Platinum Medallion®, you can select seats for all your party (so long as you are in the same booking) up to 336 days before departures free of charge, you may select an Extra Legroom or Exit Row Seat for yourself free of charge and standard seats for the rest of your party.

    If you are a SkyMiles Gold Medallion® you can select seats up to 336 days before departure free of charge for yourself only (no companion waiver and not including Extra Legroom and Exit Row Seats). Please visit delta.com to make seat selections or changes.

  • How do I Check in for a Virgin Atlantic-Operated Flight?

    If your first segment is on a Delta-operated flight, please check in with Delta. Likewise, if the first segment of your trip is operated by Virgin Atlantic, you should check in for your flight with Virgin Atlantic You can check in onlineopens in a new window at virgin-atlantic.com, at a Virgin Atlantic check-in kiosk or at the appropriate Virgin Atlantic ticket counter (i.e. Upper Class, Premium Economy or Main Cabin).

    If you are a Diamond or Platinum Medallion member, you can use the Upper Class check-in line. If you are a Gold or Silver Medallion member, you can use the Premium Economy check-in line, unless you are flying in Upper Class.

  • My Boarding Pass does not Provide a Zone Number. When do I Board?

    Diamond, Platinum, Gold, and Silver Medallion members are eligible for Priority Boarding on Virgin Atlantic. Virgin Atlantic should have information on your Priority Boarding eligibility, but we also recommend you travel with your Medallion credentials.

  • My Boarding Pass does not say "Sky Priority." Will I Still Receive my Benefits?

    Virgin Atlantic does not offer Sky Priority, but you will continue to receive your benefits on Delta-operated flights. Diamond, Platinum and Gold Medallion members will receive Priority Check-in, Security, Baggage Handling and Boarding, plus bag fee waivers for one additional piece up to 23kg (~50lbs), on Virgin Atlantic flights. Please note that members may be asked to show their Medallion credentials to receive these benefits.

  • What are the Baggage Policies for Codeshare Flights with Virgin Atlantic?

  • Do I have Access to Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse Lounges?

    Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse lounge access is available at select locations to Delta One® passengers, Upper Class passengers, and Diamond, Platinum and Gold Medallion Members with a same-day nonstop transatlantic flight between North America and the U.K. that is operated by Delta or Virgin Atlantic. Diamond and Platinum Medallion Members may access Virgin Atlantic Clubhouses in London-Gatwick, New York-JFK, Newark, Washington-Dulles, Boston, Los Angeles and San Francisco Airports. Gold Medallion Members may only access Virgin Atlantic Clubhouses within the U.S. (New York-JFK, Newark, Washington-Dulles, Boston, Los Angeles and San Francisco Airports). Diamond, Platinum and Gold Medallion Members are allowed to bring one guest. While access to the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse in London-Heathrow is not available to Gold Medallion Members, these Members may enjoy access to No1 Lounges, Heathrowopens in a new window at LHR’s Terminal 3.   • How do I know which Terminal to go to when I get to the Airport?

    In some cases, Delta and Virgin Atlantic operate from different terminals or concourses within an airport. If you’re traveling to or from New York (JFK), Boston (BOS), Las Vegas (LAS), Los Angeles (LAX), Newark (EWR), Miami (MIA) or Orlando (MCO) or Washington, DC (IAD). Virgin Atlantic flights depart from and arrive at a separate terminal than Delta flights. For terminal information, please check flight status via delta.com or the Fly Delta app up to 24 hours prior to departure. 

  • How do I make my Connection if I am Arriving on One Carrier and Departing on the other?

    Please refer to the specific airport website for airport maps and directions between terminals and/or gates. At the airport, you also may ask a Delta or Virgin Atlantic agent, who can direct you to the departing terminal or gate location for your flight.

  • Do I Receive the Virgin Atlantic Upper Class Transfer Service when I am on a Codeshare Flight?

  • How does Premium Economy on Virgin Atlantic Differ from Delta Comfort+® on Delta?

  • Does Delta partner or codeshare with Virgin America or Virgin Australia?
