Changes to Our Experience

Our experience may change, but our commitment to you remains.

To ensure we provide you the safest travel experience, we're making temporary changes to the experience you've come to love. While the signature hospitality of our crew remains unchanged, you’ll start to see the following temporary changes to our onboard experience and offerings on all flights:

We appreciate your understanding, and please know that your safety, and that of our crew, continues to guide our decisions around crafting the right experience based on the current environment.

If you're traveling with one of our trusted partners, learn more about the measures each one is taking to keep you safe.

Face Masks Required for Everyone's Safety

Delta customers and employees are required to wear a face mask, or appropriate cloth face covering over their nose and mouth throughout their travel, aligning with best practice guidelines from the CDC, opens in a new window. Plastic face shields may be used in addition to a mask but are not approved mask replacements. Any mask with an exhaust valve is not approved as an acceptable face mask for customers traveling on any Delta operated flight.

Face coverings will be required across all Delta touchpoints:

  • Lobby Check-in
  • Delta Sky Clubs
  • Boarding Gate Areas
  • Jet Bridges
  • On board the aircraft for the duration of the flight – except limited time while eating or drinking

Usage is strongly encouraged in high-traffic areas, including security lines and restrooms.

Customers with unique mask requirements should bring the appropriate face covering that best meets their needs. Customers with underlying conditions that explicitly prevent the wearing of a face covering or mask are strongly encouraged to reconsider travel or should be prepared to complete a ‘Clearance-to-Fly’ process prior to departure at the airport. If you require this exemption, please arrive early to complete the process during check-in and avoid missing your flight – this process can take over one hour. Please arrive early to allow additional time. Mask exemptions only apply for travel on flights operated by Delta Air Lines and Delta Connection and do not exempt customers from any requirements that may be imposed by governments, including local, state or foreign countries, (at the origin or destination) or from requirements on other airlines.

Any false claims of a disability or health condition to obtain an exemption from wearing a mask or face covering may result in the suspension of travel privileges on any Delta flight for the duration of the mask/face covering requirement.

Children under the age two and young children who cannot maintain a face covering are exempt from the mask requirement. Unaccompanied minors who cannot safely maintain wearing a mask due to a health condition or disability will be required to complete a pre-travel clearance at check-in.

Carry-On Bag Policy

Beginning June 3rd, as part of our continued efforts to reduce touchpoints on board, flight attendants are unable to proactively assist customers placing carry-on baggage into overhead bins, with certain exceptions. In addition to keeping customers and crew members safe and healthy, this change also protects flight attendants by decreasing the likelihood of injury caused by repetitive lifting.

Blocking Seats for More Space On Board

Delta is extending its commitment to block middle or select aisle seats and implementing the following changes for Delta-operated flights departing now through March 30, 2021:

  • On aircraft with middle seats: We will block the selection of middle seats in Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort+ and Main Cabin for parties of 1-2. Parties of 3+ can continue selecting seats together.
  • On aircraft without any middle seats: We will block the selection of one aisle of seats on smaller aircraft.
  • Blocking adjacent seats in First Class.*
  • Tip: Blocked, occupied and available seats are visible for every flight in our seat maps when booking, in  My Trips, or on the Fly Delta app. Check the seat map as the seat adjacent to yours may be occupied.
  • Limiting the total number of passengers on board.
  • On select routes where customer demand is high, we will look for opportunities to upgrade to larger aircraft or add more flying to promote space on board.
  • Boarding by row, starting from the rear of the aircraft to the front. Delta One, First Class and Diamond Medallion customers may board at any point during the boarding process.

* Delta One cabins with two aisles will have no capacity limitation. Parties of 2 in the First Class cabin and in any Delta One cabin with one aisle may select seats together.

Food and Beverage Offerings

We’re paring down our onboard food and beverage options in an effort to reduce physical touch points between customers and employees.

As always, you are welcome to bring your own food and non-alcoholic beverages on board to enjoy during flight. Since many airport offerings are limited at this time, we recommend packing your own refreshments and encourage you to review TSA guidelines, before bringing food through security checkpoints.

All glassware, including coffee mugs and champagne flutes, has been removed from every Delta flight.

Hot towel service is suspended temporarily from every Delta Flight.

Flight Attendants will continue to provide you with amenity kits on long-haul international flights. As a safety precaution, all kits will be offered via a tray rather than being pre-placed on seats.

Non-essential materials, including Delta’s in-flight magazine Sky, will be removed from seat-back pockets on all aircraft. Passenger safety briefing cards and air sickness bags will still be available.
