Travel without the need to quarantine when you arrive on Delta’s new Covid-Tested international flights between the United States and Italy.
Customers on Covid-Tested flights will be required to provide negative COVID-19 test results prior to check-in and boarding, allowing you to travel abroad with confidence and avoid the need to quarantine when you arrive in Italy.
Covid-Tested trial flights are available for purchase on select flights for departure through February 12, 2021 between Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and Rome-Fiumicino International Airport (FCO).
As part of the Delta CareStandardSM, we’re working with our trusted medical partners to design testing protocols that ensure the safety of our customers and employees, while enabling access to international travel.
Before booking a Covid-Tested flight, ensure you are aware of the flight requirements that must be completed in advance of your flight, as well as on the day of travel. These will allow you to bypass the local quarantine requirements in place for Italy. Failure to complete these requirements will prevent you from boarding the Covid-Tested flight.
Before Your Flight: PCR-Test and Contact Tracing
Customers will be required to take a COVID-19 PCR test at a test provider of their choice within 72 hours of the scheduled departure time and provide proof of a negative test result in order to check in for the flight. This test is at the customer’s own expense.
For Covid-Tested flights, we recommend that customers arrive at the airport 3 hours prior to departure. Customers flying to Italy need to check in with an agent at their first departure airport in the U.S. to verify their negative COVID-19 PCR test results; check-in will not be available through any self-service channels such as the Fly Delta app, delta.com or kiosks at the airport.
Customers flying to the United States will not be required to undergo a COVID-19 PCR test and will instead take a rapid antigen test at the airport. They will, however, be asked to adhere to Delta’s Commitment to Safer Travel and must consent to providing the following information to Delta for contact tracing purposes: full name, a primary and secondary phone number, an email address and a destination address. Delta will collect information on behalf of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in collaboration with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), to support domestic COVID-19 control efforts by making contact information for international air passengers available to state and local health departments for the purpose of contact tracing, public health follow-up and the provision of information regarding preventative actions. Accordingly, Delta will share this information with the CBP and ultimately the CDC for these purposes. We will retain this information in our systems for no longer than is necessary to achieve these objectives or as required by CBP. View our Privacy Policy.
Before taking off from the U.S. or Italy on a Covid-Tested flight, customers will be directed to a rapid testing area for a temperature screening and a COVID-19 rapid antigen test at no additional cost. Safety mitigation guidelines will be followed to ensure that customers are socially distanced throughout testing and provided with an isolated area to await boarding pending a negative test result. The negative rapid antigen test is required to board the flight.
For everyone’s safety, Delta requires that our customers and crew continue to wear masks throughout all stages of travel. Passengers traveling to Italy are directed by the Italian government to wear surgical masks on the flight and to replace their masks every four hours during the flight. In order to support contact tracing efforts, customers will not be permitted to change seats before or after takeoff.
When arriving in Italy, customers will be directed to a rapid testing area for another temperature screening and a COVID-19 rapid antigen test, also at no additional cost. Safety mitigation guidelines will be followed to ensure that customers are socially distanced throughout testing. Upon receiving a negative test result, customers will be free to enter Italy without the need to quarantine. Customers can expedite the airport testing process by prefilling in information within the FCO In-Airport Testing Form, opens in a new window when they get to the airport.
When arriving in the U.S., additional testing will not be required, though customers may be subject to health screening. Quarantine requirements upon reaching your destination in the U.S. vary by state and local governments.
If for whatever reason you don't feel comfortable with the Covid-Tested flight requirements, we are waiving change fees on new tickets purchased through March 30, 2021. Valid for all destinations served by Delta, this waiver allows a change to your travel for one year from date of purchase. Fare differences will apply. Visit full terms for details.
