Get to Know Medallion Status
2022 Medallion® Status Accelerators

We’ve been grounded, stuck at home, wishing for that next big trip, but the good news is that things are starting to look up. And whether you’ve been flying with us or are waiting to take your first flight back, we can't wait to welcome you on board - which is why we’re excited to announce our industry-leading 2022 Medallion Status Accelerators – giving you more ways than ever to earn 2022 Medallion Status and helping you achieve the next Tier faster.

Beginning with flights on April 1, 2021 through December 31, 2021, you’ll earn:

  • At least 50% more Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs), Medallion Qualification Segments (MQSs) and Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs) on Delta flights. This includes Pay with Miles tickets and flights booked as a part of a Delta Vacations® package, so experiencing the Medallion Difference is that much closer to reach.
  • And special for this year, that 50% more extends to Award Travel, inclusive of Miles + Cash tickets - making those Award trips even more rewarding.
  • Plus, an additional 25% - or 75% total – on all premium cabins (Delta One®, Delta Premium Select, First Class and Delta Comfort+®) and upgrades purchased after initial ticket purchase (cash or miles).
  • Note: For April 1-May 15, 2021 travel, bonus MQMs, MQSs and MQDs will be retroactively credited to your account by May 31, 2021. If you don’t see them immediately after your flight during this time period, know they’ll be credited soon. Bonuses are only applicable to earning Medallion Status, redeemable miles on Delta flights remain the same.

In addition:

  • Bonuses will also apply to challenges such as Reclaim My Status and Status Match, so while challenge thresholds won’t change, you’ll have an accelerated path to completion.
  • And, bonus MQMs will also apply to your Million MilerTM Status Qualification.

The bonus applies to nearly all Delta tickets but excludes travel on partner airlines, mileage upgrade awards, exception fares (not including flights that are a part of a Delta Vacations package), upgrades purchased at check-in or the gate, and purchases/mileage redemptions of non-air products or fees.

“Our customers supported us through the most difficult year in our history, and as we welcome them back, we want to help their travel count for even more. We sincerely appreciate how much our customers value their Status, and these leading-edge offers will ensure Medallion Members can continue to enjoy those benefits for flights now and in the future.”

How You'll Earn

Boosts will be automatically applied to  all eligible Delta flights flown between April 1-December 31, 2021, with no action needed from you. Here are some examples of how it works:
*Base MQMs is how you earn today, which is determined by distance flown and fare class and/or cabin. Partial segments will not display in account activity, but bonus segments will be added once you've reached one (1) whole bonus segment.

Round-trip Ticket purchased in Main Cabin:

  • MQMs: 1,522 base MQMs x 1.5 = 2,283 Total Earned MQMs
  • MQSs: 2 segments per trip x 1.5 = 3 Total Earned MQSs
  • MQDs: $153 flight spend x 1.5 = 230 Total Earned MQDs

Based on 50% bonus

Round-trip Ticket purchased as Award Main Cabin:

  • MQMs: 1,522 base MQMs x 1.5 = 2,283 Total Earned MQMs
  • MQSs: 2 segments per trip x 1.5 = 3 Total Earned MQMs
  • MQDs: 13,000 miles redeemed/100 x 1.5 = 195 Total Earned MQDs

Based on 50% bonus

Round-trip Ticket purchased in Delta Comfort+:

  • MQMs: 1,522 base MQMs of flown cabin x 1.75 = 2,644 Total Earned MQMs
  • MQSs: 2 segments per trip x 1.75 = 3.5 total MQSs
  • MQDs: $277 MQDs x 1.75 = 397 Total Earned MQDs

Based on 75% bonus

Round-trip purchased in Main Cabin, with paid upgrade to First Class with miles:

  • MQMs: 2,284 base MQMs for flown cabin x 1.75 = 3,997 Total Earned MQMs
  • MQSs: 2 segments per trip x 1.75 = 3.5 Total Earned MQSs
  • MQDs: ($153 MQDs for original ticket + 30,000 miles redeemed/100) x 1.75 = 793 Total Earned MQDs

Based on a 75% bonus for flown cabin

Let's see how this could look for your travel:

Stephanie has a business trip from ATL to LGA to meet a prospective client on April 1. She spent $312 on her one-way ticket in Delta Comfort+ ($12 of her ticket price was government-imposed taxes and fees):

  • Normally, she would earn $300 MQDs, 730 MQMs, and 1 MQS.

  • Now with Status Accelerators, since she booked Delta Comfort+, she’ll earn $525 MQDs, 1,278 MQMs and 1.75 MQSs. She’ll have a partial .75 MQS credit that will be bonused once she’s flown enough to add up to 1 whole bonus segment (rest assured -- we're keeping track!).

Robert planned his dream vacation to go on a gelato tour of Rome. He booked ATL to FCO as Award Travel and spent 75,000 miles, plus $76 in government taxes and fees, round-trip for a Main Cabin ticket. The distance flown was 10,000 miles.

  • Normally, he would not earn towards Status with Award Travel. But with Status Accelerators, in 2021 he will earn $1,125 MQDs, 15,000 MQMs and 3 MQSs.

  • If he were to purchase an upgrade to Delta Comfort+ for an additional 20K miles, he would earn $1,663 MQDs, 17,500 MQMs and 3.5 MQSs.

FAQs

  • All flights, including Award Travel Tickets, that are operated and marketed by Delta, Delta Connection® Carriers or Delta Shuttle® (the flight number beginning with ‘DL’) and flown between April 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021 will receive a 50% bonus of MQMs, MQSs and MQDs for tickets purchased in Basic Economy or Main Cabin, or a 75% bonus of MQMs, MQSs and MQDs for tickets purchased in Delta Comfort+®, First Class, Delta Premium Select or Delta One®.
  • This also includes Pay with Miles tickets, Miles + Cash tickets, post-purchase upgrades and on flights booked as a part of a Delta Vacations® package

  • The bonus applies to most Delta flights. The bonus will not apply to travel on Partner Airlines, mileage upgrade awards, exception fares (not including flights that are a part of a Delta Vacations package), upgrades purchased at check-in or at the gate, or purchases/mileage redemptions of non-air products or fees.
  • You will either earn a 50% MQMs, MQS and MQDs bonus for travel in Basic Economy or Main Cabin or a 75% bonus for travel in Delta Comfort+, First Class, Delta Premium Select or Delta One. These bonuses will be applied to the amount you would normally earn.
  • MQMs: MQMs earned through flight activity on Delta are calculated based on distance flown and fare class purchased – your bonus will be applied to this value.
    • For example, if you would usually earn 2,000 MQMs on a flight booked in First Class based on the distance and fare class purchased, you would earn 3,500 MQMs.
  • MQSs: Members earn 1 MQS for each segment of their journey. Depending on the cabin you paid for and flew, a bonus will be applied to each segment.
  • MQDs: MQDs are the sum total of the Member’s spend on a Delta flight, inclusive of base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges, but exclusive of government-imposed taxes and fees.
  • Special for only the remainder of this year, SkyMiles Members can earn MQMs, MQSs and MQDs for Award Travel on flights that are both marketed and operated by Delta and flown April 1, 2021 through December 31, 2021.
  • MQMS: You will earn MQMs on Award Travel tickets based on the distance flown and cabin bonus (if applicable) – a 50% or 75% bonus will be applied to this value, depending on your cabin purchased.
  • The base MQMs for Award Travel tickets in Basic Economy, Main Cabin and Delta Comfort+ will be the distance flown
  • The base MQMs for Award Travel tickets in First Class, Delta Premium Select and Delta One will be 50% of the distance flown plus the distance flown (or 150% of the distance flown)
  • Just like purchased tickets, the minimum amount of MQMs you will earn on a flight (prior to the application of bonus MQMs) is 500.
    • For example, if the distance of your flight booked in Delta Comfort+ is 700 miles, you would earn 700 MQMs, plus 75% of that total: 1,225 MQMs
    • If the distance of your flight booked in First Class is 700 miles, you would earn 1,050 MQMs (50% of the distance flown + the distance flown), plus 75% of that total: 1,838 MQMs
  • MQSs: You will earn MQSs like you normally would on retail tickets. Members earn 1 MQS for each segment of their journey. Depending on the cabin you paid for and flew, a bonus will be applied to each segment.
  • MQDs: MQDs on Award Tickets will be calculated based on the miles redeemed for the flight divided by 100 – a 50% or 75% bonus will be applied to this value, depending on the cabin purchased
    • For example, if you redeem 50,000 miles for a First Class ticket, here is how many MQDs you would earn: (50,000/100) = 500; 500*75%=375; 500+375= 875 MQDs

  • You won’t see partial segments in your account, but rest assured we are keeping track. Bonuses will be added incrementally once you’ve flown enough to add up to 1 whole bonus segment. You will see the bonus segment in your account no later than the day after you’ve flown the segment that helped you reach one whole bonus segment.
  • At the end of the year, any partial segments will be rounded up to one whole segment.
  • The member that flies will earn MQMs, MQSs and MQDs, regardless of who redeemed the miles for the trip.
  • These accelerators will be available to SkyMiles Members through the end of 2021. For those who aren’t ready to fly yet, you can still earn MQMs through your everyday spend with our Delta SkyMiles Reserve or Platinum American Express Cards.
  • Delta SkyMiles American Express Card Members can reach Medallion Status faster with a special offer in 2021. With Status Boost, Platinum and Reserve Card Members can earn 25% more Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) for each spending threshold they meet. That means in 2021, Reserve Card Members can earn 18,750 MQMs each time they spend $30,000 on purchases (up to 4 times) instead of the 15,000 MQMs they would normally earn, and Platinum Card Members can earn 12,500 MQMs each time they spend $25,000 on purchases (up to 2 times) instead of the 10,000 MQMs they would normally earn with Status Boost in a calendar year.
  • No, bonuses will only apply to MQMs, MQSs and MQDs to help qualify for Medallion Status.
  • Just like Award tickets, SkyMiles Members can now earn MQMs, MQSs and MQDs on Miles + Cash tickets that are both marketed and operated by Delta and flown April 1, 2021 through December 31, 2021  (see all other Award Travel earn rules above).
  • Earning MQMs and MQSs on Miles + Cash ticket will work just like how earning on Award Travel Tickets will, plus the bonus for your Cabin.
  • MQDs will be calculated based on the original award mileage cost divided by 100.
    • For example, if the original cost of your Delta Comfort+ ticket is 25,000 miles, but you use the Miles + Cash option to redeem 15,000 miles and pay $191.20, your MQDs would be 25,000 miles/100 = 250, plus the 75% premium cabin bonus.
  • The Pay with Miles benefit available to Delta SkyMiles American Express Card Members allows you to redeem increments of 5,000 miles to reduce the price of a ticket by up to $50.
  • Earning MQMs and MQSs will work just like they normally would, plus the bonus for your Cabin.
  • MQDs will be calculated based on the original full fare and carrier-imposed surcharges, before miles are applied.
    • For example, if a Main Cabin ticket costs $300, and you use 10,000 miles to reduce the cash cost of the ticket to $200, you would earn 300 MQDS, plus the 50% Main Cabin bonus.
  • You will earn the bonuses based on the cabin you paid for and flew.
  • For example, if you buy a Main Cabin ticket for $300 and later upgrade to First Class for $150, you will earn a 75% bonus MQMs, MQSs and MQDs on both the original purchase and the upgrade.
  • If you purchase a ticket and then later upgrade with miles, the MQDs for the upgrade will be calculated based on the mileage price divided by 100. The sum of the MQDs earned for the original purchase and MQDs earned for the upgrade will receive the 75% bonus.
  • Paid upgrades exclude Upgrade certificates, Mileage Upgrade Awards or upgrades purchased at check-in or at the gate.
  • For travel on April 1, 2021 – May 15, 2021, the bonus MQMs, MQSs and MQDs will be retroactively credited to your account by May 31, 2021. If you don’t see them immediately after your flight during this time period, know they will be credited to you.
  • Bonuses for MQMs and MQDs will be credited to your account after you have flown. See above for how partial MQSs work.
  • If you are upgraded to a premium cabin using an Upgrade Certificate or through a Complimentary Upgrade, you will earn bonuses based on the cabin you paid for, not the cabin you were upgraded to.
  • Only the Card Member will earn bonus MQMs, MQDs or MQSs based on the cabin they purchased. Their companion is not eligible to earn bonus MQMs, MQDs, or MQSs.
  • You will earn bonuses for any legs of your trip that are both marketed and operated by Delta. Travel on partner airlines is not eligible for these bonuses, but you would still earn towards Status like you normally would. Learn more about earning with Partner Airlines here.
  • If your itinerary includes both Delta and partner-operated flights, MQDs are divided among the flights based on the ticket and fare rules; MQD bonuses would be awarded on the Delta-specific flights but not the partner-operated flights in the ticket.
  • Yes, all MQMs, MQSs and MQDs earned will count towards promotions and Challenges
  • If you have Status with another airline, learn more about our Status Match Challenge here.

  • Yes, all MQMs earned will count towards your Million Miler Qualification.
  •

    • Yes, the MQMs you earn in 2021 that are above your earned Medallion Tier will roll over to 2022, giving you a jump start on earning 2023 Medallion Status.
    • You earn MQMs and MQSs like you normally would:
      • MQMs: based on distance flown and the fare class bonus
      • MQSs: 1 MQSs per segment of your trip
      • MQDs are earned based on the distance and fare class bonus divided by 5, regardless of whether the ticket is paid in full or if miles are used towards a portion of the cost.
    • A 50% or 75% bonus will be applied to MQMs, MQSs and MQDs, depending on the cabin you paid for.
    • No, the mileage calculator will display the projected MQMs, MQSs and MQDs earn prior to the 50% or 75% bonus application.
    • Yes, international Members are eligible to earn the bonuses on MQMs and MQSs. There is no MQD requirement for International-based Member’s to earn Medallion Status.

Earning Medallion Status: For purposes of MQM or MQD credit, “distance flown” means the calculated distance between origin and destination, as determined by Delta in its sole discretion, regardless of the actual distance traveled on any individual flight. MQMs, MQSs and MQDs are earned by the Member who is flying, regardless of who booked or redeemed miles for the ticket and are awarded after the ticket is flown. Free, barter, pass travel and other tickets not eligible for mileage accrual will not earn MQMs, MQS or MQDs. Bonus does not apply to redeemable miles. Bonus MQMs will count towards Members’ Million MilerTM Status, Rollover MQMs, in addition to promotions and challenges that award Medallion Status.

    • Medallion Qualification Miles: Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) earned through flight activity on Delta are calculated based on distance flown and fare class purchased – promotional bonuses will be applied to this amount. Prior to the bonus being applied, flights and itineraries eligible for MQMs, including Award Travel tickets, will earn a minimum of 500 MQMs per segment.  If an upgrade is purchased, the bonuses would apply to the cabin that is flown.  Bonus does not apply to MQMs earned through eligible Delta SkyMiles American Express Credit Cards, including Status Boost or MQMs part of a Welcome Offer.

    • Medallion Qualification Segments: All fare classes eligible to earn MQMs count toward MQSs. One (1) MQS will be awarded for each segment of your trip on Delta. During the promotional period, either a 50% or a 75% bonus will be applied to each segment, depending on the cabin flown on a qualifying flight. Partial segments will not appear in a Member’s account activity; bonus MQSs will be credited to a Member’s account on an ongoing basis throughout the Promotional Period once the Member has flown enough to equal one (1) whole bonus MQS. Additional bonus segments may not appear in a Member’s account at the time the base segments are earned as bonus segments for qualifying flight activity will be credited to accounts on an ongoing basis throughout the promotional period, account no later than the day after you have flown the segment that helped you reach one (1) whole bonus segment. At the end of the 2021 calendar year, any partial segment will be rounded up to the next whole number and be credited to the Member to qualify for 2022 Medallion Status.

    • Medallion Qualification Dollars: MQDs are the sum total of the Member’s spend on Delta-marketed flights, inclusive of the base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges, but exclusive of government-imposed taxes and fees – either a 50% or 75% bonus will be applied to this amount based on the cabin flown. The MQDs you will earn when traveling on a flight booked as a part of a Delta Vacations package will be equal to one-fifth of the distance flown and fare class purchased (when applicable) earned on the itinerary. All other ancillary purchases or fees including but not limited to checked baggage fees, Priority Boarding, Delta Sky Club® memberships, Wi-Fi passes, in-flight food and beverage purchases, in-flight entertainment, unaccompanied minor fees, pet travel fees, Mileage Booster™ or mileage purchases, ticket change fees, Direct Ticketing Charge (DTC), same-day confirmed or standby fees, Administrative Service Charge (ASC), and External Reissue Charge (ERC), do not count toward earning MQDs.

Learn more about MQMs, MQSs and MQDs.

Post-Purchase Upgrades: The bonus will be awarded based on the cabin that is both purchased and flown. If your original purchase is in Main Cabin and you later purchase an upgrade with cash or miles, the bonuses to MQMs, MQS and MQDs will be applied based on the premium cabin flown. MQMs will be based on the distance flown and the fare class that is purchased and flown, regardless of whether the upgrade is purchased with cash or miles. MQDs for the miles redeemed for a post-purchase upgrade are calculated by the mileage redeemed for the upgrade divided by 100. Members will earn the 75% MQD bonus on both the original purchase ticket and the amount paid for the upgrade.
