DELTA COMFORT+® FAQS

For travel within the U.S. 50, Canada and select flights to and from the Asia Pacific, Latin America/Caribbean regions and select Transatlantic markets including flights between North America and Europe, the Middle East or Africa for departures Jan 22, 2018 and beyond.

  • Delta Comfort+ is now available for purchase during the booking process in all markets within the U.S. 50, Canada, Asia Pacific region including China, Hong Kong, and the Latin America and Caribbean region including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Peru. Delta Comfort+ will also be available during the booking process for travel in most markets in the transatlantic region including flights between North America and Europe, the Middle East or Africa for departures Jan. 22, 2018 and beyond.

  • No. Delta offers a variety of flight experiences tailored to meet your needs.  Our Delta One®, First Class, and Main Cabin are Delta's primary cabins of service. Delta Comfort+, Main Cabin, and Basic Economy are three experiences within our Main Cabin.

  • Yes. At any time after the ticket is issued, customers can upgrade from Main Cabin to Delta Comfort+, First Class or Delta One, or from Delta Comfort+ to First Class or Delta One. This upgrade is an add-on product and as such, it doesn’t not require ticket reissue. Customers may use a different method of payment than used for the original ticket purchase.

  • Yes. Additionally, this new flexibility builds on the airline’s innovative branded fares program designed to give customers greater flexibility and choice when making travel plans.

  • Post-purchase upgrade is available to customers from the time of ticketing, up until three hours prior to scheduled departure, subject to availability. Customers can go to My Trips and look for the Delta Comfort+ banner at the top of your trip or call Reservations to buy Delta Comfort +, First Class, or Delta One as an add-on.

  • Since Basic Economy tickets are not eligible for upgrade to another product, post-purchase upgrades for Basic Economy tickets are not available. Other exceptions may apply. All offers are subject to availability.

  • Not necessarily. Seat availability at the time of purchase will include the best price available for an upgraded seat. Post-purchase upgrades will be the same as, or sometimes more than, purchasing in the shopping path as a fare.

  • Customers, regardless of elite status, who purchase Basic Economy cannot upgrade to Delta Comfort+.

  • Customers who purchase Delta Comfort+ may be able to make a Same Day change for domestic flights if Delta Comfort+ is available on the newly selected Same Day flight. If Delta Comfort+ is not available, a customer may qualify to make a Same Day change to Main Cabin if a qualifying seat is available for the newly selected flight.  Fees apply for Same Day Standby and Same Day Confirmed changes. No refunds will be issued for differences in fares.

  • If you purchased Delta Comfort + as a fare and you are voluntarily changing your flight, you may be eligible for a credit toward a future flight based on fare rules. If there is an involuntary change to your flight and we are unable to accommodate you with a comparable seat, you may be compensated. 

  • All post purchase paid upgrades are nonrefundable and must be used as ticketed. No changes are permitted.  Failure to use the seat upgrades as ticketed will result in forfeiting the upgrade purchased.

  • Yes, Delta Comfort+ purchases (during and after ticketing) will earn Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs), Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) and applicable mileage accruals when a SkyMiles number is included in the purchase transaction.  Complimentary Upgrades to Delta Comfort+ will not earn additional MQDs or MQMs.

  • You may purchase and award ticket at time of ticketing if and where (select markets) Delta Comfort+ is available.

  • Medallion Members must request an upgrade in order to be eligible for Complimentary Upgrades to Delta Comfort+. If a Complimentary Upgrade to Delta Comfort+ is available, Medallion Members will be notified:

    • Diamond and Platinum Medallion Members, directly after ticketing.
    • Gold Medallion Members, 72 hours before departure.
    • Silver Medallion Members, 24 hours before departure,.

  • If you have provided us with contact information, we will automatically notify you via email confirming your Complimentary Delta Comfort+ Upgrade and new seat assignment during your respective upgrade clearance window. Please make sure you have updated your profile to include your email address.

  • Medallion Members who are eligible for a Delta Comfort+ Complimentary Upgrade will not receive a reminder alert when the respective Medallion window begins.  If you have opted in for your Delta Comfort+ Complimentary Upgrade, the upgrade process occurs automatically.   Delta will continue to attempt to upgrade applicable Medallion Members, and any qualifying companion, as early as the beginning of your complimentary access window up to boarding at the departure gate, based on seat availability.

    If you choose to choose to opt out of Complimentary Upgrades, you may select an available Delta Comfort+ seat off of the seat map* in the Fly Delta App or at delta.com, as long as you are within your eligibility window. You will be eligible to select a Delta Comfort+ seat after Members in your same eligibility window who have opted in for automatic upgrades have cleared Please check your respective Medallion Upgrade window. And starting June 15, 2017, when traveling alone, Medallion Members who are not opted in to receive automatic Delta Comfort+ Upgrades will now have the ability to request a Delta Comfort+ upgrade to any available seat or only a window/aisle seat when checking in for a flight at delta.com or at an airport kiosk.

    *Seat map upgrade functions will be coming soon to the Delta-operated segments of itineraries that include both Delta-operated and partner airline-operated segments.

  • Purchasing Delta Comfort+ at the time of booking provides you with the peace of mind that you'll enjoy the premium experience of Delta Comfort+. We do not reimburse Medallion Members when Complimentary Upgrades become available.

  • Your Complimentary Upgrade to Delta Comfort+ will not impact your First Class upgrade status or respective clearance priority. If you receive a Complimentary Upgrade to Delta Comfort+ and then choose to revert back to a Main Cabin seat via the seat map, you will still be eligible for a Complimentary Upgrade to First Class.

  • If you choose to opt in for Delta Comfort+ Complimentary Upgrades, a Delta Comfort+ seat will be assigned as available. Once an upgrade has been granted, you may select a different Delta Comfort+ or Main Cabin seat, if available.

    If you choose to opt out of Complimentary Upgrades, you may select an available Delta Comfort+ seat off of the seat map* in the Fly Delta app or at delta.com, as long as you are within your eligibility window, and starting June 15, 2017, when traveling alone, Medallion Members who are not opted in to receive automatic Delta Comfort+ upgrades will now have the ability to request a Delta Comfort+ upgrade to any available seat or only a window/aisle seat when checking in for a flight at delta.com or at an airport kiosk.

    *Seat map upgrade functions will be coming soon to the Delta-operated segments of itineraries that include both Delta-operated and partner airline-operated segments.

  • Yes. Members are eligible to request automatic Complimentary Upgrades to Delta Comfort+ on flights within the Caribbean, Central America, and Northern South America markets serviced with our First Class product (Colombia and Venezuela) as well as Asia Pacific markets, excluding China and Hong Kong.

    For flights within Latin America / Caribbean markets serviced with our Delta One® product and select Asia Pacific markets, including China and Hong Kong, and other markets such as transatlantic flights, Medallion Members will continue to upgrade to Delta Comfort+ by selecting an available Delta Comfort+ seat via the seat map during their eligibility window.

    For flights that depart September 20, 2017 and beyond, Members will be eligible to request automatic Complimentary Upgrades to Delta Comfort+ on all flights within Latin America/Caribbean and Asia Pacific markets, including China and Hong Kong.

  • Yes, as a Medallion Member, you will still receive complimentary access to Preferred Seating when you purchase a Main Cabin ticket.

  • Medallion Members and one companion may enjoy Complimentary Upgrades to Delta Comfort+ when traveling in the same reservation on Delta and Delta Connection carriers, as long as the companion is a SkyMiles Member. Clearance priority will be based on the Status of the higher-tiered Member in your reservation. Terms and conditions apply.

  • Yes, your companion must be in the same reservation to be eligible for a Complimentary Upgrade to Delta Comfort+. Clearance priority will be based on the Status of the higher-tiered Member in your reservation.

  • The Complimentary Upgrade clearance of you and your traveling companion for Delta Comfort+ will be based on the Status of the higher-tiered Member in your reservation.

  • Customers who purchase Y, B or M will not have automatic complimentary access to Delta Comfort+ at the time of booking, subject to fare rules. Delta SkyMiles Medallion Members who purchase Y, B or M fares will still maintain complimentary access to Delta Comfort+, subject to availability, at the time of their respective Medallion Upgrade window.

  • Eligible OA Elite travelers may be upgraded to Delta Comfort+ at time of departure subject to availability, booking class and elite tier level.  Customers must opt-in for an upgrade via My Trips on delta.com, or via a Delta check-in channel to be placed on the airport standby listing for an upgrade.

  • Eligible OA Elite travelers will receive complimentary access to Delta Comfort+ subject to availability, booking class and access window.
