Change fees have been waived for all tickets purchased on or before April 30, 2021, and there are no change fees for tickets purchased on or after May 1, 2021 when you purchase Main Cabin or above originating from North America. For tickets where travel begins outside of North America, we continue to offer waived change and cancellation fees. With no change fees, you have the flexibility to change the date, time or location of your trip prior to departure.
Your current flight value will be applied toward your new flight. However, if you change your flight, the cost of your new flight may be more than the original price you paid. In this case, you will be responsible for paying the difference in price. In cases where the price of your new flight is less than the original price you paid, you will receive an eCredit for the difference in price between your original flight and the price of your new flight.
As a reminder, Basic Economy tickets cannot be changed, but you may cancel before departure for a cancellation charge which is deducted from the value of your ticket; remaining value will be issued as an eCredit.
Visit My Trips or the Fly Delta app to make your changes.
Delta tickets normally expire one year from the date of purchase. However, for additional flexibility, all tickets expiring in 2022 and all new tickets purchased in 2022 will be able to be rebooked through December 31, 2023 for travel now through 2024. When you are ready to use your eCredit, visit delta.com/redeem or the Fly Delta app where you’ll be able to verify the existing value/expiration date information and apply the eCredit at the time of purchase.
Rest assured that we are at work updating all tickets with their extended validity later this year. As we make this update, you can continue to book tickets for travel anytime in 2022 or 2023 with your existing eCredits.
For more details about waiver eligibility and terms, visit delta.com/waivers.
Enjoy more peace of mind with no change fees when you purchase a Main Cabin ticket or higher on flights originating from North America. For tickets where travel begins outside of North America, we continue to offer waived change and cancellation fees.
If you change your flight, the cost of your new flight may be more than the original price. In this case, you will be responsible for the difference in price. In cases where the price of your new flight is less than the original price or if you choose to cancel your flight before departure, you will receive an eCredit for the difference between the price of your original ticket and the price of your new ticket.
While Delta has eliminated change fees, there may be times when your new flight may cost more than your original. In that case you would need to pay the difference. Additionally, Basic Economy fares are non-changeable, but may be canceled before departure for a cancellation charge. Any remaining value will be issued as an eCredit.*
*Excludes tickets issued for travel originating in Mexico, which cannot be canceled or changed. For tickets issued for travel originating in Korea, tickets will be refunded to original form of payment after deducting the cancellation charge. For tickets issued for travel originating in Europe, the cancellation charge is €150. For tickets issued for travel originating in Africa, Middle East and India, the cancellation charge is $199. However, Delta has extended its 2021 Basic Economy Changeability Waiver for travel originating in Europe, Africa, Middle East and India departing until January 31, 2022, so that affected customers may change or cancel their flight without incurring a cancellation charge.
In keeping with our longstanding policy, if we cancel or significantly delay a flight, we will first attempt to rebook you on an alternate flight, if one is available.
If we cannot find an alternate flight and we cancel the reservation for you, or if you choose to cancel the alternative itinerary we have selected for you, you have a couple of options:
- An eCredit for the value of the ticket; or
- If you prefer, you may request a refund to your original form of payment
The same rules apply whether a flight is booked with cash, miles or using a Companion Certificate.
For award flights that qualify for a change fee waiver, we are also waiving the mile redeposit fee.
All unused Companion Certificates as of July 31, 2021, or Companion Certificates issued between August 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021, will have the expiration date extended to book and fly by January 31, 2023. To cancel your trip and use your Companion Certificate for a future booking, please visit My Trips. You can also call our Reservations team at 1 (800) 221-1212 to change your trip.
Visit delta.com/redeem where you’ll be able to verify your eCredit value, expiration date and redeem online for future travel.
Review our how-to page for tips on managing eCredits.
Medallion Members will be cleared for Complimentary Upgrades to Delta One (within the U.S. 50), First Class and Delta Comfort+ based on their designated clearance window in priority order, availability and other measures we have implemented – like reducing the number of passengers per flight – to create space onboard and provide a safer environment for our customers and employees.
If Members do not wish to be automatically upgraded or instead prefer to select their own seat on the seat map during their designated clearance window, they can opt out of all automatic Complimentary Upgrades in the Preferences section of My Profile on delta.com or set individual flight preferences in My Trips. As always, Members can use the seat map to select any available seat across the seat map – even after an automatic Complimentary Upgrade has been processed.
Face masks are no longer required inside domestic airports, on U.S. domestic flights and on most international flights.
We recommend reviewing Delta’s mask policy, which includes more information on mask usage. Please continue to bring a mask with you for international travel, because it may be required for some destinations based on their laws and requirements.
Crews use electrostatic sprayers to sanitize aircraft interiors from floor to ceiling with a high-grade disinfectant. Cleaning crews then perform extensive manual cleaning procedures to wipe down cabin surfaces including seats, consoles, seatback screens, windows, doors, lavatories and other high-touch areas of the cabin.
Check out more details about Delta’s aircraft cleaning and sanitizing procedures.
Destinations & Travel Restrictions
As the pandemic evolves and customer demand and travel restrictions fluctuate, we must continue to make difficult decisions about where we fly and how often. While our schedule is reduced, we nevertheless hope to serve every customer who chooses Delta.
If your flight’s been canceled, rest assured the value of your ticket won’t be lost. You will receive an eCredit for the value of your ticket. Find more information on rebooking with eCredits here. Or if you prefer, you may request a refund to your original form of payment.
COVID-19 testing is not required for most travelers entering or connecting through the U.S. Travelers who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents are still required to complete an attestation confirming they are fully vaccinated, and contact tracing remains in place for everyone..
Effective December 6, 2021, all customers ages 2 and up traveling to or connecting through the U.S. must have proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 1 day before departure. A negative antigen or PCR test is accepted. Testing providers can be found at Testing Resources.
If you have recently recovered from COVID-19 you can travel with a positive test (taken within the past 90 days before travel) and a letter from a licensed healthcare provider or public health official stating that the customer has been cleared for travel, in lieu of the negative COVID test result.
