DELTA POLICIES
Traveling with Pets
Carry On: Dogs, cats and household birds* can travel with you in the cabin for a one-way fee of $125 in the U.S. and Canada. For pet travel outside the U.S., review a list of destinations and associated carry-on fees, along with restrictions. Call 1-800-221-1212 for flights within the U.S. and 1-800-241-4141 for international flights.
Checked: Delta only accepts animals as checked baggage for active U.S Military or Active U.S State Department Foreign Service Personnel (FSP) & their Spouse with active transfer orders. Pets must comply with federal regulations, including proper documentation based on current policies and procedures. All pets or other animals not meeting these exceptions and not able to travel as checked baggage will only be accepted for travel as freight through Delta Cargo.
Cargo: For pets that are ineligible to travel in the cabin, as carry-on, we can safely ship your pet with Delta cargo. Learn more about eligible animals, booking, shipping instructions and fees for shipping your pet in cargo. Book online with deltacargo.com or call 1-800-352-2746 for additional assistance with your pet cargo travel.

*Household birds are only permitted in the cabin on domestic U.S. flights.
Infant & Children Travel
Lap Infants: You may travel with one infant on your lap without purchasing a ticket, as long as the infant is under the age of two, you are at least 18 years old, you are the infant’s parent or legal guardian and you are traveling within the U.S.* If you are traveling with a newborn (less than 7 days old), you must provide a physician’s note. Call Reservations with additional questions on infant travel.
Infant Ticket Requirements: A ticket is required for children two and older, or if you: 1) are traveling with more than one infant (and already have one on your lap); 2) are traveling between countries; or, 3) wish to earn miles.
Children Traveling Alone: Delta’s Unaccompanied Minor Program is required for all children 5-14 years old and optional for children 15-17 years old who are traveling alone. The fee is $150 each way in addition to the ticketed adult fare. Review our “Children Traveling Alone” FAQs and call 1-800-325-8847 with questions.
*If traveling internationally with a lap infant, the cost is usually 10% of the adult fare, plus international taxes and surcharges.
Children’s Baggage: If children are traveling for free, they don’t have a baggage allowance; any baggage counts as part of the ticketed adult’s baggage allowance. If children are traveling on a ticket, the baggage allowance is based in part on the travel fare paid. See baggage guidelines for ticketed travel. Strollers and seat restraints can easily be checked at curbside, the ticket counter or the gate.
Special Assistance
Reservations: It’s helpful to note special need requirements when booking your reservation. Certain requests — including the need for an oxygen or respirator hookup aboard the plane, checking or shipping battery-powered wheelchairs or traveling with a large group of people with disabilities — require 48 hours advance notice and at least one hour advance check in before departure. Contact Delta Reservations at 1-800-221-1212 with questions.
Wheelchair Assistance: We have free wheelchairs available for use at airport locations, and you can request wheelchair service when making a reservation. Upon arrival at the airport, notify a Delta representative for wheelchair assistance to the departure gate. We also offer this service to help you make a connecting flight or to pick up your luggage at baggage claim. You may also add a wheelchair request at My Trips.
Boarding Assistance: If you require boarding assistance, we have a specially designed “aisle chair” to carry you to and from your seat. Every Delta aircraft also has a wheelchair for use between the lavatory and your seat.
Service and Support Animals: We welcome trained service animals and emotional support animals on our flights. Both types of animals provide invaluable services and we welcome both on Delta. For information and regarding our service animal policies and procedures visit Service and Support Animals
