Medallion Status Benefits

As a SkyMiles Member, when you fly with us on qualifying flights, you get closer to reaching Medallion Status. Each of our four Medallion Tiers – Diamond, Platinum, Gold, and Silver – delivers an added level of service, exclusivity and rewards offered only by Delta that elevate your journey at every turn.
Award ticket redeposit and reissue fees will be eliminated for Award tickets purchased on or after December 9, 2020 for travel originating from North America to anywhere in the world (including flights operated by joint venture and codeshare partners) and for Award tickets purchased on or after August 31, 2020 for travel within the domestic U.S., Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands, with the exception of Basic Economy tickets.

SkyMiles Members can also take advantage of no change fees when purchasing Main Cabin or above on flights originating from North America. Members can also use their travel credits through December 2022 for travel originally scheduled to depart before March 31, 2021 (if the ticket was purchased before April 17, 2020).

How to Make it to Medallion Status

When you join SkyMiles and start earning miles on qualifying flights in Main Cabin or above, you also begin earning toward Medallion Status. By flying with Delta and most partner airlines, you’ll earn Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs), Medallion Qualification Segments (MQSs) and Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs).

As you fly, we’ll help you keep track of exactly how much you’re earning — and how close you are to achieving the next Medallion Tier. To track your MQMs, MQSs and MQDs and climb to Status, visit the My SkyMiles page or view them in the Fly Delta app in the SkyMiles section.

Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs – U.S.-based Members only)

Earned based on how much you spend on Delta flights and many partner flights.

Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs)

Earned based on the distance you fly and the fare class of your ticket, excluding Basic Economy. Plus, get even closer to Medallion Status with Status Boost® and earn bonus MQMs each time you hit a spend milestone with your eligible Delta SkyMiles American Express Card. Medallion Qualification Segments (MQSs)

Earned based on the number of flights you take.


Waive the MQDs requirement towards Platinum, Gold or Silver Medallion Status if you make at least $25,000 in purchases in that year with your Card from American Express.


Sharing Your Medallion Stories

As a Medallion Member, you spend a lot of time with Delta employees, and we want to recognize the employees that go above and beyond to make your travel experience exceptional.

Email your stories to with as much detail as possible so we can identify the employee who helped make your day. If you know their name that is really helpful, but also who were they? A gate agent at the JFK airport? A flight attendant on your trip from LAX to ATL? A phone representative? The more information you can share, the better.

If you have stories from the past, we’re eager to hear those too. Please send us any of the details you can remember.

Besides helping recognize employees, some of the best stories might be featured in Delta marketing! Before anything you’ve shared with us is made public, we’ll be sure to contact you via email for your permission.
