The historic charm of Savannah, Georgia’s oldest city, draws visitors from near and far to experience everything it has to offer. After landing at Savannah Hilton Head International Airport (SAV), visitors are taken back in time to its many antebellum mansions and cobblestone streets. While many come to experience its rich past, Savannah is also known for its culinary delights and its bustling art scene, home to the prestigious Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Some also visit for its natural beauty, with live oaks covered in Spanish moss towering over the city’s many beautiful gardens, pristine marshland and nearby beaches.

Visitors to Savannah fly into Savannah Hilton Head International Airport (SAV) just northeast of downtown. With 15 terminals on the airport’s 2nd floor, the airport is manageable despite being Georgia’s 2nd busiest airport. A Visitor Information Center near baggage claim on the 1st floor is available for any questions passengers might have.

No matter what you have on your agenda, you'll soon learn that in Savannah you can wander your way there. Savannah is dotted with historic public squares with specific histories all their own, so take time to get to know them and the shops that sit around their perimeters. Be sure to visit Johnson Square, the city's first square, dating back to 1733. The public mill and oven were located here, and it was the site of the earliest church as well as the Savannah Bank Building, the city's first skyscraper.

With all this history comes plenty of lore and legend. Give yourself the chills with a haunted tour of the city to visit spooky spots like the Colonial Park Cemetery or the Pirates' House, a historic restaurant and the oldest standing building in the state.

Local bookstores like The Book Lady Bookstore offer rare books and plenty of comfy places to settle in to crack open an early edition of your favorite classic. In the mood for art? The Savannah College of Art & Design — with 7,000 art students — sells works at ShopSCAD so you can take home a little piece of Savannah inspiration.

And no trip to the South is complete without good, old-fashioned Southern cooking. Mrs. Wilkes's Boarding House is a must-taste destination with a family-friendly atmosphere. For dessert, try the local favorite: the legendary Leopold's Ice Cream shop owned by founder Peter Leopold's youngest son and film producer Stratton Leopold.

Mild winters and a beautiful spring climate make Savannah a top tourist destination in the South. The town does feature an above average rainfall amount, and its humid Summer months adds to a longer wet season.
