Coronavirus Travel Updates

Taking care of you is at the center of everything we do. This situation remains very fluid, and we are committing the utmost care and attention into crafting and continuously evaluating our travel waiver policies.

It‘s easy to cancel, make changes or rebook online

We’re here to help. Visit My Trips to make changes to your flight(s) any time before your travel date.

Making travel changes easier

We’re now waiving change fees and providing greater flexibility to travel through September 30, 2022, for customers who:

  • have upcoming travel already booked for March through September 30, 2020 as of April 17, 2020
  • have existing eCredits or canceled travel from flights in March through September 30, 2020

Rest assured your eCredits are safe even as we work to process updates

All applicable eCredits will be automatically extended to September 2022 so there’s no action needed on your part. We are actively working on a solution to display the new expiration dates in all the places you can find your eCredits on delta.com. So even if your eCredit for canceled travel has not yet been processed or extended, or is temporarily displaying incorrectly, there is no need to call. Rest assured your flight value is secure through September 30, 2022 and will be ready to redeem online when you need it.

Tickets purchased between March 1 and May 31, 2020, can be changed without a change fee for a year from the date you purchased it.

Before traveling, check with local airports of origin and destination to ensure you have the latest safety and security protocols. To learn more about our commitment to your safety, visit our Coronavirus Update Center

We encourage you to explore your options in My Trips if the scenarios below do not apply to your ticket. There are some tickets that cannot be changed online:

  • Your form of payment used includes SkyMiles Companion Certificates, a combination of cash and miles, or an upgrade using miles or certificates
  • You’re an adult traveling with an infant in arms
  • Your ticket was ticketed by another airline. Generally, this means your flight number will start with something other than DL

If you are ready to book your new trip now and don’t yet see your eCredit or have an issue booking on delta.com, please have your old ticket number ready when you call our Reservations team.

When you're ready to travel, we're ready for you.

  • Simply click “book” to start booking a new trip.
  • If you have an eCredit, go to delta.com/redeem where you’ll be able to apply that eCredit at the time of purchase. For step-by-step instructions, visit our how-to page.
  • Tickets purchased between March 1 and May 31, 2020 can be changed without a change fee for up to a year from the date you purchased it.

Feel free to direct message us on Twitter @Delta, opens in a new window.

You can also call our Reservations team at 1 (800) 221-1212 to change your plans.

If you are traveling soon and cannot get through on one of our service channels, we will ensure all changes will be processed and applicable credits will be issued if you don't take your flight. If you missed your flight and your ticket is unused, your ticket becomes an eCredit within 24 hours.

  • If your SkyMiles number was in the reservation when you booked it, the tickets will appear in the list of eCredits in your account within 24 hours. You can find a list of your eCredits within My Wallet or by going to delta.com/redeem and logging in.
  • If your reservation didn’t include a SkyMiles number at the time of booking, you will need your 13-digit ticket number beginning with 006. You can locate the ticket number on your emailed flight purchase receipt.
  • Use the step-by-step guide to access and use your eCredit here.

In keeping with our longstanding policy, if Delta cancels or significantly delays a flight, you will first be rebooked on an alternate flight. If you choose to cancel your reservation, or if Delta cannot find an alternate flight and cancels the reservation for you, you will be issued an eCredit for the value of the ticket, which can be used toward future travel through September 30, 2022.

You may also request a refund back to your original form of payment if Delta cancels or significantly delays your flight (delays or schedule changes greater than 90 minutes). If your travel has been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic, you can also change or cancel your travel without a change fee. If there is a difference in price, the fare difference will apply.

To allow additional flexibility in making travel changes, we’re extending any Delta ticket for travel March through September 30, 2020, booked before April 17, 2020, to permit travel until September 30,  2022.

We completely understand. You can cancel your flight and get an eCredit to use toward a future Delta flight. The value of the ticket(s) will be available to you as an eCredit. Follow our step-by-step guide to use your eCredit when you are ready to book your travel.

We have teams working around the clock to reach out to these customers, so you should hear from us in the coming days. If you are traveling or need to accelerate your return flight to be in the next 72 hours, please visit My Trips.

Yes, although a difference in ticket price applies. Your current ticket value will be applied toward your new ticket. If you choose to go to the same destination, and before September 30, 2020, we will waive the fare difference.

If this is not for immediate travel, please visit My Trips or the Fly Delta app to make your changes.

A change fee might appear while you select your new flights but don’t worry, the fee will be waived at checkout if your new selections meet the eligibility criteria.

We are working quickly to address a technical issue impacting our ability to show the updated expiration dates. We apologize for any inconvenience. Rest assured all applicable existing eCredits will be automatically extended to September 30, 2022.

The same rules apply whether a flight is booked with cash or miles. For award flights that qualify for a change fee waiver, we are also waiving the mile redeposit fee.
