Please note that 12oz/350mL is approximately the size of a standard U.S. can of soda. Powders in carry-on bags may require secondary screening, and if the powder cannot be cleared by security officials, it will be prohibited from the cabin of the aircraft.

  • Powder-like substances are described as fine dry particles produced by the grinding, crushing or disintegration of a solid substance (i.e. flour, sugar, ground coffee, spices, powdered milk and cosmetics).
  • Certain powders will be exempt from secondary screening, including baby formula, medically necessary powders and human remains.
  • For customers departing from the United States and/or United States territories, TSA has already implemented procedures for powder-like substances at security checkpoints.

Advisory

Delta is working closely with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to implement the new security measures and will work to minimize any potential impact to our customers.

For more information, please read the DHS fact sheet.

Effective Jan 15, 2018 Delta will not accept smart bags with non-removable lithium-ion batteries as carry-on or checked baggage on any Delta mainline or Delta Connection flight.

Customers checking a smart bag with a removable lithium-ion battery must remove it and take it with them into the cabin. Customers carrying-on a smart bag containing a removable lithium-ion battery must remove it from the designed enclosure prior to boarding the aircraft. Once the battery is removed from the bag’s designed enclosure, the battery may be placed inside the carry-on bag. The removable battery does not need to be carried separately from the smart baggage.

Due to recently-implemented U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) enhanced security requirements for customers traveling from any non-U.S. location, we strongly advise all customers to arrive at the airport at least 3 hours prior to your scheduled departure time and to proceed to your departure gate promptly to allow extra time to clear security. We also encourage passengers to check-in online at delta.com or via the Fly Delta app to help expedite the check-in process.

Over the years, Delta has received reports of attempts by parties not affiliated with us to fraudulently gather customer information in a number of ways including: fraudulent emails, social media sites, postcards, Gift Card promotional websites claiming to be from Delta Air Lines and letters or prize notifications promising free travel. These messages were not sent by Delta Air Lines. We do not market to our customers this way, but individuals or groups intending to gather and use your personal data for their gain can be inventive in their approach – often adding messages to generate a sense of urgency so you take action.

Some messages may claim that you have purchased a Delta ticket, a credit card has been charged, order has been completed, an invoice/receipt is attached to an email or website may offer free flights for following or liking an account. If you see or receive one of these messages, do not open attachments as they may contain potentially dangerous viruses or harm your computer.

Be assured that Delta did not send these messages, and our customers’ credit cards have not been charged by Delta as a result of the emails. These messages did not originate from Delta, nor do we believe that any personal information that you provided us was used.

If you have been contacted this way, please be advised of the following security and data protection best practices to guard your personal information:

  • Change your SkyMiles account password immediately and monitor your account for any misuse if you believe someone other than yourself has access to this information.

Your password on delta.com must contain:

  • 8-20 characters
  • 1 number and 1 letter
  • 1 uppercase and 1 lowercase letter

Cannot contain

To ensure the safety of our customers and employees, Delta no longer accepts hoverboards or any lithium battery powered self-balancing personal transportation devices on board its aircraft. These items are prohibited as both carry-on and checked baggage.

Spare batteries for other devices, fuel cells, and e-cigarettes are permitted in carry-on baggage only. If your carry-on bag contains these items and is gate checked, they must be removed and carried in the cabin.  For more information, please visit restricted items.

The U.S. Department of Transportation has issued an emergency order that bans all Samsung Galaxy Note 7 devices from commercial air transport. Delta customers should comply by not traveling with this device in any form, whether on their person, in a carry-on bag, in a checked bag or shipped as cargo. The U.S. DOT has provided additional information about the ban on their website.

Effective immediately, customers traveling on any airline to the U.S. from select airports in Europe, the Middle East and Africa should expect additional security measures relative to carry-on items. All battery-operated electronic devices intended for carry-on must be operational; any device that cannot be powered on upon screening will not be permitted onboard. Customers are encouraged to allow extra time at airports to account for additional screening requirements and to charge their electronic devices prior to arrival at security checkpoints. Information on [24]7.AI Cyber Incident

OVERVIEW

Last updated on April 7, 2018,  9:00am ET
Last week, on March 28, Delta was notified by [24]7.ai, a company that provides online chat services for Delta and many other companies, that [24]7.ai had been involved in a cyber incident. It is our understanding that the incident occurred at [24]7.ai from Sept. 26 to Oct. 12, 2017 and that during this time certain customer payment information for [24]7.ai clients, including Delta, may have been accessed – no other customer personal information, such as passport, government ID, security or SkyMiles information was impacted. Delta customers who believe they could be impacted, should visit https://delta.allclearid.com. to enroll in the free protection services being offered.

Upon being notified of [24]7.ai’s incident last week, Delta immediately began working with [24]7.ai to understand any potential impact the incident had on Delta customers, delta.com, or any Delta computer system. We also engaged federal law enforcement and forensic teams, and have confirmed that the incident was resolved by [24]7.ai last October. At this point, even though only a small subset of our customers would have been exposed, we cannot say definitively whether any of our customers’ information was actually accessed or subsequently compromised.

We appreciate and understand that this information is concerning to our customers. The security and confidentiality of our customers’ information is of critical importance to us and a responsibility we take extremely seriously. We will be updating http://www.delta.com/response regularly to address customer questions and concerns. We will also be directly contacting customers who may have been impacted by the [24]7.ai cyber incident. In the event any of our customers’ payment cards were used fraudulently as a result of the [24]7.ai cyber incident, we will ensure our customers are not responsible for that activity.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1.  How did [24]7.ai’s cyber incident occur?

  • [24]7.ai is a company that provides online chat services for many companies, including Delta.
  • We understand malware present in [24]7.ai’s software between Sept. 26 and Oct. 12, 2017, made unauthorized access possible for the following fields of information when manually completing a payment card purchase on any page of the delta.com desktop platform during the same timeframe: name, address, payment card number, CVV number, and expiration date.
  • No other customer personal information, such as passport, government ID, security or SkyMiles information was impacted.

2. What customers were impacted?

  • At this point, we understand that the malware was present for a short period of time and potentially exposed several hundred thousand customers.
  • While we believe we have identified with some precision the transactions that could have been impacted, we cannot say definitively whether any of our customers’ information was actually accessed or subsequently compromised.
  • There was no impact to the Fly Delta app, mobile delta.com or any other Delta computer system. Payment card information for those customers who used Delta Wallet to complete transactions was not compromised. The malware could only collect the information shown on the screen, so credit card information automatically populated by Delta Wallet functionality would have remained masked and not useable.
  • Customers did not have to interact with the online chat tool to be impacted.

3. What is Delta doing to make this right for customers?

  • Delta launched www.delta.com/response, a dedicated website, on April 5 at noon ET, which we will be updating regularly to address customer questions and concerns.
  • Delta will be working diligently to directly contact customers, including by first-class postal mail, who may have been impacted by the [24]7.ai cyber incident.
  • Delta will also launch a dedicated phone line and website for the small subset of customers who were impacted so we can address their concerns.
  • Should customers’ payment cards be found to have been used fraudulently as a result of the [24]7.ai cyber incident, we will ensure our customers are not responsible for that activity.
  • We will also offer free credit monitoring to those customers who were impacted.

4. Has the cyber incident been contained?

  • Yes. Information provided to us by [24]7.ai after notice on March 28 indicates that the incident was contained by [24]7.ai on Oct. 12, 2017.

5. What should customers do if they think they could be impacted?

  • Delta has partnered with AllClear ID, a leading customer security and fraud protection firm, to offer a suite of credit monitoring services to those who may be impacted for free for two years starting on April 7, 2018. Delta customers who believe they made a purchase on the delta.com desktop platform between Sept. 26 and Oct. 12, 2017, and therefore could be impacted, should visit https://delta.allclearid.com., opens in a new window to enroll in the free protection services being offered.
  • If you believe your card has been used to make a fraudulent purchase, please contact the card issuer immediately and follow their instructions.

Customers with current reservations who are concerned about travelling to destinations reported by the CDC to be affected by Zika Viral Illness should call 1-800-221-1212 (U.S.) or your local Reservations office and speak with a Delta Representative.

Customers may qualify for a change to alternate destinations, travel dates or a refund. Customers may make fee-waived changes to future reservations/tickets if tickets were issued on or before March 1, 2016. If you are a Delta Vacations customer please call 1-800-800-1504.

Canada is now mandating a new entry requirement, known as an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA), for visa-exempt foreign nationals* traveling to or through Canada by air. Exceptions include U.S. citizens and travelers with a valid visa. To learn more, visit Canada.ca/eTA.

Applying for an eTA is a simple online process. Most applicants can expect to get an email response within minutes of applying. You should get your eTA as soon as you begin to plan your trip to Canada.

To determine if you need as Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA):

*Due to a recent change, Mexican nationals will no longer be required to have a Canadian visa to enter/transit through Canada.

The Department of State, Passport Services (PPT) is anticipating a surge in passport demand in the next two years and advises travelers with a passport expiring now through 2018 to renew well before the expiration date.  Delta recommends customers apply for, or renew, their passports well ahead of planned international travel as it is a common requirement to have a valid passport of at least six months beyond period of intended stay in many countries. For more information on U.S passports, please visit the Travel State Governmentopens in a new window page.

We recommend that customers use a unique password for their SkyMiles account. Your password on delta.com must be 8-20 characters long; one number and one letter; and one uppercase and lowercase letter.

In addition, the password cannot contain the '@' symbol; your SkyMiles number, email or username; and cannot contain more than three special characters.

Customers should use their SkyMiles number or username and password to logon to delta.com.

We would like to remind customers that if they use the same username and password combination for multiple accounts at multiple institutions, the risk of unauthorized access to accounts is increased.

Customers have reported receiving Facebook requests from Delta asking for SkyMiles numbers and other personal information. These requests are fraudulent and do not come from Delta.

Delta will never contact you via Facebook, and we never ask for personal or account information via any means other than through our secure web site or when you have contacted us, and only as a means of verifying your identity.

Overseas Filipino Workers Fare tickets (net of the Passenger Service Charge (PSC)) are available through Delta Reservations or a travel agent.  If you wish to purchase a ticket online at delta.com, your ticket will include the PSC, but you may claim a PSC refund at the Manila International Airport (MNL) during check-in or at MIAA refund counters. In all cases, the customer must provide the necessary exemption certificate during check-in at MNL, in accordance with MIAA rules.

During peak travel seasons, our codeshare partner, Seaborne Airlines, may impose more stringent baggage limitations on routes from San Juan to Antigua, Dominica, Tortola, Nevis and St. Kitts. Such restrictions are necessary to operate the flight in a safe manner.
