In 1982, The Spirit of Delta began with the dream of three flight attendants. Rallying thousands, raising millions, and inspiring countless of coworkers, they gave back to the company that had given them so much with a lasting symbol of overwhelming gratitude.
All because Delta took care of its people during tough times, its people took care of Delta. In doing so, exemplifying our culture of selflessness, resilience, and unwavering Delta Pride while creating an extraordinary example to follow for years to come.
When former Delta CEO, Jerry Grinstein, directed the financial reimbursement received after refusing a salary during the 80’s bankruptcy to form the 501(c)(3) org, the Care Fund began. Honoring the support employees showed the company, this selfless act would go on to pay it forward for years to come.
Today the Care Fund is owned by Delta people, for Delta people. Whenever they need help through unforeseen hardships, whether accident, injury, illness, death, domestic violence or natural disasters, the Care Fund is here help get them back on their feet and flying again.

Like everything we do at Delta, we do it together. So, to celebrate our spirit, people, and collective power, we’re creating an homage that brings all 85,000 of us together.
Starting as a digital mosaic of the faces, names and stories that make us who we are, we’ll soon reveal a permanent installation dedicated to you at the Delta Museum. But we can’t do it without you.
