How You'll Earn

Bonuses will be automatically applied to  all eligible Delta flights flown between April 1-December 31, 2021, with no action needed from you. Here are some examples of how it works:

*Base MQMs is how you earn today, which is determined by distance flown and fare class and/or cabin. Partial segments will not display in account activity, but bonus segments will be added once you've reached one (1) whole bonus segment.

Round-trip Ticket purchased in Main Cabin:

  • MQMs: 1,522 base MQMs x 1.5 = 2,283 Total Earned MQMs
  • MQSs: 2 segments per trip x 1.5 = 3 Total Earned MQSs
  • MQDs: $153 flight spend x 1.5 = 230 Total Earned MQDs

Based on 50% bonus

Round-trip Ticket purchased as Award Main Cabin:

  • MQMs: 1,522 base MQMs x 1.5 = 2,283 Total Earned MQMs
  • MQSs: 2 segments per trip x 1.5 = 3 Total Earned MQMs
  • MQDs: 13,000 miles redeemed/100 x 1.5 = 195 Total Earned MQDs

Based on 50% bonus

Round-trip Ticket purchased in Delta Comfort+:

  • MQMs: 1,522 base MQMs of flown cabin x 1.75 = 2,644 Total Earned MQMs
  • MQSs: 2 segments per trip x 1.75 = 3.5 total MQSs
  • MQDs: $277 MQDs x 1.75 = 397 Total Earned MQDs

Based on 75% bonus

Round-trip purchased in Main Cabin, with paid upgrade to First Class with miles:

  • MQMs: 2,284 base MQMs for flown cabin x 1.75 = 3,997 Total Earned MQMs
  • MQSs: 2 segments per trip x 1.75 = 3.5 Total Earned MQSs
  • MQDs: ($153 MQDs for original ticket + 30,000 miles redeemed/100) x 1.75 = 793 Total Earned MQDs

FAQs

  • All flights, including Award Travel Tickets, that are operated and marketed by Delta, Delta Connection® Carriers or Delta Shuttle® (the flight number beginning with ‘DL’) and flown between April 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021 will receive a 50% bonus of MQMs, MQSs and MQDs for tickets purchased in Basic Economy or Main Cabin, or a 75% bonus of MQMs, MQSs and MQDs for tickets purchased in Delta Comfort+®, First Class, Delta Premium Select or Delta One®.
  • This also includes Pay with Miles tickets, Miles + Cash tickets, post-purchase upgrades and on flights booked as a part of a Delta Vacations® package
  • The bonus applies to most Delta flights. The bonus will not apply to travel on Partner Airlines, mileage upgrade awards, exception fares (not including flights that are a part of a Delta Vacations package), upgrades purchased at check-in or at the gate, or purchases/mileage redemptions of non-air products or fees or SkyBonus Award Certificates.
  • You will either earn a 50% MQMs, MQS and MQDs bonus for travel in Basic Economy or Main Cabin or a 75% bonus for travel in Delta Comfort+, First Class, Delta Premium Select or Delta One. These bonuses will be applied to the amount you would normally earn.
  • MQMs: MQMs earned through flight activity on Delta are calculated based on distance flown and fare class purchased – your bonus will be applied to this value.
    • For example, if you would usually earn 2,000 MQMs on a flight booked in First Class based on the distance and fare class purchased, you would earn 3,500 MQMs.
  • MQSs: Members earn 1 MQS for each segment of their journey. Depending on the cabin you paid for and flew, a bonus will be applied to each segment.
  • MQDs: MQDs are the sum total of the Member’s spend on a Delta flight, inclusive of base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges, but exclusive of government-imposed taxes and fees.
  • SkyMiles Members can earn MQMs, MQSs and MQDs for Award Travel on flights that are both marketed and operated by Delta and flown April 1, 2021 through December 31, 2022.
  • MQMS: You will earn MQMs on Award Travel tickets based on the distance flown and cabin bonus (if applicable) through December 31, 2022 – a 50% or 75% bonus will be applied to this value, depending on your cabin purchased through December 31, 2021.
  • The base MQMs for Award Travel tickets in Basic Economy, Main Cabin and Delta Comfort+ will be the distance flown
  • The base MQMs for Award Travel tickets in First Class, Delta Premium Select and Delta One will be 50% of the distance flown plus the distance flown (or 150% of the distance flown)
  • Just like purchased tickets, the minimum amount of MQMs you will earn on a flight (prior to the application of bonus MQMs) is 500.
    • For example, if the distance of your flight booked in Delta Comfort+ is 700 miles, you would earn 700 MQMs, plus 75% of that total: 1,225 MQMs
    • If the distance of your flight booked in First Class is 700 miles, you would earn 1,050 MQMs (50% of the distance flown + the distance flown). Plus, a bonus of 75% to that total (or 1,838 MQMs in this case) through December 31, 2021.
  • MQSs: You will earn MQSs like you normally would on retail tickets. Members earn 1 MQS for each segment of their journey. Depending on the cabin you paid for and flew, a bonus will be applied to each segment through December 31, 2021.
  • MQDs: MQDs on Award Tickets will be calculated based on the miles redeemed for the flight divided by 100. A 50% or 75% bonus will be applied to this value, depending on the cabin purchased through December 31, 2021.
    • For example, if you redeem 50,000 miles for a First Class ticket, here is how many MQDs you would earn: (50,000/100) = 500; 500*75%=375; 500+375= 875 MQDs
  • You won’t see partial segments in your account, but rest assured we are keeping track. Bonuses will be added incrementally once you’ve flown enough to add up to 1 whole bonus segment. You will see the bonus segment in your account no later than the day after you’ve flown the segment that helped you reach one whole bonus segment.
  • At the end of the year, any partial segments will be rounded up to one whole segment.
  • The member that flies will earn MQMs, MQSs and MQDs, regardless of who redeemed the miles for the trip.
  • No, bonuses will only apply to MQMs, MQSs and MQDs to help qualify for Medallion Status.
  • Just like Award tickets, SkyMiles Members can now earn MQMs, MQSs and MQDs on Miles + Cash tickets that are both marketed and operated by Delta and flown April 1, 2021 through December 31, 2022 (see all other Award Travel earn rules above).
  • Earning MQMs and MQSs on Miles + Cash ticket will work just like how earning on Award Travel Tickets will, plus the bonus for your Cabin.
  • MQDs will be calculated based on the original award mileage cost divided by 100.
    • For example, if the original cost of your Delta Comfort+ ticket is 25,000 miles, but you use the Miles + Cash option to redeem 15,000 miles and pay $191.20, your MQDs would be 25,000 miles/100 = 250, plus the 75% premium cabin bonus through December 31, 2021.
  • The Pay with Miles benefit available to Delta SkyMiles American Express Card Members allows you to redeem increments of 5,000 miles to reduce the price of a ticket by $50 for each 5,000 miles redeemed.
  • Earning MQMs and MQSs will work just like they normally would, plus the bonus for your Cabin.
  • MQDs will be calculated based on the original full fare and carrier-imposed surcharges, before miles are applied.
    • For example, if a Main Cabin ticket costs $300, and you use 10,000 miles to reduce the cash cost of the ticket to $200, you would earn 300 MQDS, plus the 50% Main Cabin bonus.
  • You will earn the bonuses based on the cabin you paid for and flew.
  • For example, if you buy a Main Cabin ticket for $300 and later upgrade to First Class for $150, you will earn a 75% bonus MQMs, MQSs and MQDs on both the original purchase and the upgrade.
  • If you purchase a ticket and then later upgrade with miles, the MQDs for the upgrade will be calculated based on the mileage price divided by 100. The sum of the MQDs earned for the original purchase and MQDs earned for the upgrade will receive the 75% bonus.
  • Paid upgrades exclude Upgrade certificates, Mileage Upgrade Awards or upgrades purchased at check-in or at the gate.
  • For travel on April 1, 2021 – May 15, 2021, the bonus MQMs, MQSs and MQDs will be retroactively credited to your account by May 31, 2021. If you don’t see them immediately after your flight during this time period, know they will be credited to you.
  • Bonuses for MQMs and MQDs will be credited to your account after you have flown. See above for how partial MQSs work.
  • If you are upgraded to a premium cabin using an Upgrade Certificate or through a Complimentary Upgrade, you will earn bonuses based on the cabin you paid for, not the cabin you were upgraded to.
  • Only the Card Member will earn bonus MQMs, MQDs or MQSs based on the cabin they purchased. Their companion is not eligible to earn bonus MQMs, MQDs, or MQSs.
  • You will earn bonuses for any legs of your trip that are both marketed and operated by Delta. Travel on partner airlines is not eligible for these bonuses, but you would still earn towards Status like you normally would. Learn more about earning with Partner Airlines here.
  • If your itinerary includes both Delta and partner-operated flights, MQDs are divided among the flights based on the ticket and fare rules; MQD bonuses would be awarded on the Delta-specific flights but not the partner-operated flights in the ticket.
  • Yes, all MQMs, MQSs and MQDs earned will count towards promotions and Challenges
  • If you have Status with another airline, learn more about our Status Match Challenge here.
  • Yes, all MQMs you earn in 2021 will roll over to 2022, giving you a jump start on earning 2023 Medallion Status.
  • You earn MQMs and MQSs like you normally would on Delta tickets:
    • MQMs: based on distance flown and the fare class bonus
    • MQSs: 1 MQSs per segment of your trip
  • MQDs: Delta Vacations tickets are Exception Fares. Exception Fare classes (Delta-ticketed only) earn MQDs based on the distance flown multiplied by a percentage based on the fare class, then divided by 5. The percentage multiplier based on the fare class is as follows:
    • Delta One®/First Class/Delta Premium Select - J, C, D, I, Z, F, P, A, G: 150% of distance flown
    • Full Fare Main Cabin/ Delta Comfort+® - Y, B, M, W, S: 100% of distance flown
    • Main Cabin and Discounted Main Cabin - H, Q, K, L: 75% of distance flown
    • Deeply Discounted Main Cabin - U, T, X, V, E: 50% of distance flown
  • A 50% or 75% bonus will be applied to MQMs, MQSs and MQDs, depending on the cabin you purchased through December 31, 2021 .
  • For example, if you book a roundtrip, non-stop, Deeply Discounted Main Cabin Ticket (T fare class) through Delta Vacations, and the roundtrip flight distance is 3,000 miles, here is how you would calculate your MQDs:
    • 3,000*50%=1,500; 1,500/5= 300; 300 + 150 (50% of 300 -– the Main Cabin Accelerator bonus) = 450 MQDs
  • If you booked that same roundtrip, non-stop flight in First Class (Z fare class), here is how you would calculate your MQDs:
    • 3,000*150%= 4,500; 4,500/5= 900; 900 + 675 (75% of 900 – the First Class Accelerator bonus) = 1,575 MQDs

Note: Delta Vacations tickets that are operated by Delta are the only exception fares that are eligible for the 2022 Medallion Status Accelerator bonuses.

  • The mileage calculator in the shopping path on delta.com reflects the Medallion Status Accelerators for paid tickets. It does not currently reflect the Accelerator bonuses for Award or Miles + Cash Tickets.
  • Yes, international Members are eligible to earn the bonuses on MQMs and MQSs. There is no MQD requirement for International-based Member’s to earn Medallion Status.
  • These accelerators will be available to SkyMiles Members through the end of 2021. For those who aren’t ready to fly yet, you can still earn MQMs through Status Boost by spending with our Delta SkyMiles Reserve or Platinum American Express Cards.
  • Delta SkyMiles Platinum and Reserve Card Members have access to a benefit called Status Boost which helps them get closer to Medallion Status. With Status Boost, Platinum Card Members can earn 10,000 Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) after they spend $25,000 in purchases on their Card in a calendar year, up to two times per year. Reserve Card Members can earn 15,000 Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) after they spend $30,000 in purchases on their Card in a calendar year, up to four times per year.
  • We also introduced the Status Boost special offer earlier this year so Delta SkyMiles Platinum and Reserve Card Members can earn 25% more Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) in 2021 than they can already earn with Status Boost for each spending threshold they meet.
