Requesting Medallion Upgrades

Medallion members are entitled to unlimited complimentary upgrades, subject to availability, on most published coach fares on Delta and certain Delta-designated codeshare flights in North America within or between the United States (excluding Hawaii), Alaska, Bermuda, Canada, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Mexico.

Medallion Upgrade Options

  • Request one-class upgrades at the time of booking, or for a confirmed itinerary after purchase, even if the request is outside of your upgrade time window. Upgrades will be confirmed using the automated upgrade process based on availability, time before departure, fare class purchased and SkyMiles level.
  • Request a travel companion upgrade.
  • Select seats and purchase tickets in addition to requesting your upgrade—all in the same online transaction.
  • Log in to request upgrades for a confirmed itinerary after purchase.
  • Verify your upgrade status online when you view your itinerary to check if your request is confirmed.

Complimentary Upgrade Terms & Conditions

Unlimited complimentary upgrades are subject to availability, may not be available on all flights or in all markets, are not valid for travel to/from Hawaii and are not available on Delta Shuttle® or Delta Connection® carriers (except Shuttle America).

Complimentary upgrades are not available on flights to/from South American cities that are serviced with our BusinessElite® product (i.e., Buenos Aires, Argentina; Santiago, Chile; Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, Brazil).

For applicability on other Delta-designated codeshare flights, contact a Delta representative. We limit the seats available for use with complimentary upgrades and may not make seats available on all flights.

Upgrades for Medallion members must be requested at least 45 minutes before the scheduled departure of the flight.

Flight cancellation, substitution of equipment, or other irregular operations may result in the cancellation of confirmed upgrades. Delta's liability, if any, in the event of irregular operations is governed by the terms of its contract of carriage and shall be based upon the original fare purchased.

Changes in reservations on ticketed itineraries are permitted only pursuant to the rules of the original coach fare purchased. Where permitted, changes may require payment of a change fee and/or any difference in the applicable fare.

There is a Direct Ticketing Charge for tickets purchased from Delta over the telephone, at an airport, or city ticket office, and these amounts are not refundable. Travel agents may impose an additional service charge for ticketing.

Upgrades do not affect SkyMiles mileage accrual. Mileage accrued is based on the original fare purchased. Mileage bonus will be posted six to eight weeks after qualified travel is completed. All SkyMiles program rules apply.
