Here are some basic guidelines for bringing medical supplies or equipment—including rescue unit breathing apparatus—on board a Delta flight.
Passengers who require medical supplies or equipment during their travel may check the supplies/equipment as an additional item free of charge. They can also carry the item on with them, in addition to the regular carry-on allowance, as long as the item meets size and weight restrictions. If the medical supplies or equipment are included in a larger bag that contains other non-essential items, that bag will not be considered a free item, and will be subject to normal baggage fees.
Delta will accept a self-contained breathing apparatus used by emergency rescue units as checked baggage, as long as the unit's weight does not exceed 150 lbs. (68kgs).
A 24-hour advance notice is required. Please contact Reservations.
Needles and syringes are permitted in carry-on baggage if the passenger also has, in their possession, medication that has a professionally printed label identifying the medication, a manufacturer’s name, or pharmaceutical label.
