There’s a baggage allowance for kid stuff too. Before you set out with your little ones, you’ll want to be sure you know how much of their stuff you can bring along, the types of infant items that you can check or take as carry-on, and the rules about child restraint seats.
Children’s baggage allowances are based in part by the fare paid for their travel.
If children are traveling for free, they don’t have a baggage allowance. So any baggage for the child counts as part of the adult's baggage allowance.
For children traveling on a ticket that is 10% of the adult fare, they are allowed one checked bag up to 20lbs (10kg) with a maximum outside dimension (length plus width plus height) of 45 inches, plus one checked fully collapsible stroller or push-chair.
For children traveling on a ticket that is 50% or more of the adult fare, children are entitled to the standard baggage allowance.
See Child Fares & Ticketing for Delta's current policy on special fares & discounts.
Strollers and child restraint seats will be checked for free and are not counted as part of the standard baggage allowance.
Strollers and child restraint seats may be checked at curbside, the ticket counter, or at the gate.
If you want to use a child restraint seat or stroller to transport your child through the airport, that's fine. Strollers need to be checked at the gate by a Delta agent. Child restraint seats may be checked, or in certain cases, they may be brought on board:
If there's an open passenger seat in your row, you may place your child in an FAA-approved child restraint in that seat during take-off and landing. However, Delta can't guarantee that a seat will remain open. If you want to be sure a seat will be available, you'll have to purchase a ticket. If an empty passenger seat is not available for your child restraint, the child restraint will have to be checked at the gate by a Delta agent.
A fare-paying passenger may carry one bag plus one personal item on the plane. The following infant items may be brought in addition to the one bag carry-on allowance:
As a carry-on item, it must meet our carry-on size restrictions.
The bassinet or infant seat must be properly secured by a seat belt if stored on an aircraft seat.
