we can carry many types of sporting goods on Delta flights. Choose your
item from the pull down below to check if it is accepted and the corresponding excess baggage fees and packaging requirements for the item.

Archery equipment
Archery equipment is accepted as checked baggage. Items must be in a container of sufficient strength to protect the equipment.
Items in excess of the baggage allowance will be subject to excess baggage fees.
Non-motorized touring or racing bicycles with single seats are accepted as checked baggage. The fee is 150 USD/CAD/EUR* for travel between United States, U.S. Virgin Islands, Canada, and Puerto Rico, and Asia, or within Asia and Europe.
Current fees for tickets purchased in Brazil or Japan for travel to/from Brazil is $75.
For all other travel (either within the United States/Canada, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico, or outside the United States/Canada, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico), bicycles as checked baggage is 200 USD/CAD/EUR*.
Your bike must be packaged in a cardboard or canvas container in
one of the following ways:
Handlebars fixed sideways and pedals removed
Handlebars and pedals encased in plastic, Styrofoam, or other
similar material
Some Delta Connection® carriers and aircraft may not accept bicycles as
checked baggage, and may have different limits.
Fishing Poles up to 120 linear inches
are accepted as checked baggage if properly
encased. Excess
baggage fees will apply for items over 80 linear inches. All standard baggage charges apply.
One golf bag is acceptable up to 50 pounds as a checked bag. If the bag exceeds 50 pounds, excess baggage fees will apply. The outside linear dimensions may exceed 80 inches and no excess baggage fees will apply. All other standard baggage charges apply.
One item of golfing equipment is defined as one golf bag.
Golf clubs will be accepted as checked baggage under the following conditions:
The golf bag is packaged within a hardshell case.
The golf bag is packaged within a soft sided golf club travel bag after the customer signs a limited release.
Delta is not responsible for damage noted at the time of check-in or damage due to overpacking the bag.
Items of hockey / lacrosse equipment may be accepted as checked baggage. Standard baggage policies apply. Based on purchase date of ticket, fees could apply.
One item of hockey / lacrosse equipment is defined as one equipment bag plus two hockey or lacrosse sticks (taped together). The total weight of the equipment bag and hockey sticks may not exceed 50 pounds or excess weight charges will apply. Size limits of up to 80 linear inches apply.
Dive bags containing scuba equipment, other than an empty dive tank, are accepted as checked baggage.
Empty dive tanks will always be subject to a fee of 150 USD/CAD/EUR* for travel between U.S./Canada, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico, and Asia; or within Asia and Europe.
For all other travel, the fee is 200 USD/CAD/EUR*.
Current fees for tickets purchased in Brazil or Japan for travel to/from Brazil is $100. Scuba equipment
accepted in excess of the baggage allowance will be assessed the appropriate fee based on destination.
Shooting equipment is accepted as checked baggage.
When checking a firearm, you must:
Declare to the Delta representative that you are checking a firearm
(If a Security Checkpoint is prior to the Delta ticket counter,
you must declare the existence of a firearm to security personnel.)
All firearms must be declared by the passenger to a Delta agent at the main ticket counter
Present firearm(s) unloaded and sign a "Firearms
Unloaded" declaration
Firearms must be packed in a hard side case with a key or combination lock in possession of the passenger only
Maintain entry permits in your possession for the country or
countries of destination or transit
Ensure small arms ammunition is packed in the manufacturer's
original package or securely packed in fiber, wood or metal boxes
Passengers are responsible for knowledge of and compliance with all Federal, State, or local laws regarding the possession and transportation of firearms. TSA locks are not approved for securing firearms. For more information about this regulation you can visit the TSA site.
Firearms transported to the United Kingdom as checked baggage require
a permit from the United Kingdom. The passenger must contact the
United Kingdom for more information regarding this permit.
Ammunition in excess of 11 pounds per passenger or that contains incendiary
projectiles is prohibited.
Rifles
Delta will accept firearms and shooting equipment packaged as follows:
One gun case containing up to a total of four rifles or shotguns,
plus shooting materials, and tools
One gun case containing up to five handguns, one scope, and
tools
One bow and quiver of arrows and maintenance kit enclosed in
a case or container of sufficient strength to protect the bow and
quiver from accidental damage
An excess
baggage fee will apply to cases containing more than two
rifles.

Ski and snowboard equipment are accepted
as checked baggage.
An item of ski or snowboard equipment is defined as:
One ski/pole bag or one snowboard bag, and
One boot bag
The combined weight of the ski/snowboard bag and the boot bag may
not exceed 50 pounds or excess
baggage fees will apply. The outside linear dimensions may exceed 80 inches and no excess baggage fees will apply.
One item of surfing equipment is accepted as baggage for 200 USD/CAD/EUR* each way.
For travel between U.S./Canada, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico, and Asia; or within Asia and Europe the fee is 150 USD/CAD/EUR*. Current fees for tickets purchased in Brazil or Japan for travel to/from Brazil is $100.
Surfboard restrictions and exceptions:
Delta Connection carrier's surfboard acceptance and charges
may vary.
If not in a protective
case, you must fill out a limited
liability release before we accept the surfboard.
Surfboards are allowed one board per bag; additional boards in a bag
will be charged, per board.
