Basic Economy Fare Features

Delta's new Basic Economy fares are our lowest-priced fares and are available in select markets in the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin islands. We're able to keep these fares low by limiting certain benefits found in other Delta Economy class fares. For example, Basic Economy fares are non refundable and no cancellations or changes may be made once the ticket is purchased. However, this fare is eligible for Risk Free Cancel and our Same-day Travel Changes programs.

Advance seat selection

Advance seat selection is not available with Basic Economy fares. Seat assignments will be auto-assigned for Basic Economy fare holders during check in.

Prohibited Ticketing Practices

Our fares apply only to the specific itineraries for which they are quoted and the restrictions that apply to our discounted fares are an essential part of our contract with you. These restrictions make it possible for us to offer these discounted fares.

Failure to comply with applicable fare restrictions, circumventing those restrictions, or misrepresenting your intended itinerary are all violations of our Contract of Carriage.

While not an exclusive list, the following ticketing practices are prohibited:

  • Back-to-back ticketing—combining multiple overlapping round-trip tickets to circumvent Saturday or other overnight stay requirements.
  • Throw-away ticketing—use of discounted round-trip excursion fares for one-way travel.
  • Point-beyond ticketing—use of a fare published for travel to a point beyond your actual intended destination or from a point before your actual intended origin.

In such cases where there is a violation of our Contract of Carriage, we reserve the right to:

  • Cancel the remainder of the itinerary and confiscate any unused flight coupons.
  • Refuse to board the passenger or check baggage.
  • Charge the passenger for the difference between the fare paid and the fare for the passenger's traveled itinerary.

Fees and Currencies

  • Fares for travel originating in most of the world's major industrialized countries are filed and quoted in the primary currency of those countries and in U.S. dollars for other countries.
  • Pay with Miles-eligible customers who are logged-in will have fares quoted in U.S. dollars regardless of the travel origin country.
  • Foreign transaction and currency conversion fees:
    • Ticket purchases on delta.com will be reported to your credit/debit card issuer as sales made in the country from which travel originates. For example, if you buy a ticket from Paris to New York, the transaction will be reported as a purchase made in France in Euros. In this example, if your credit/debit card billing address country is not France, your card issuer may assess a foreign transaction and/or currency conversion fee as described in your card holder agreement.
    • Pay with Miles tickets are reported as sales made in the US.

Delta.com Internet Booking Fees

A booking fee will apply for each ticket purchased if the billing address of the credit/debit card is located in Denmark, the Netherlands or Sweden. The per ticket booking fee is DKK 40 for Denmark, EUR 10 for the Netherlands and SEK 50 for Sweden.

If your flight is cancelled and you choose to no longer travel, you may request a refund. Refunds are permitted for flight delays of 90 minutes or more for domestic tickets and for tickets for travel between the U.S. and Canada. If the flight delay is caused by weather, labor disputes, earthquakes, volcanoes, security shutdowns, or other factors beyond Delta’s control, Delta is only obligated to refund the ticket and is not required to provide other amenities or compensation.

When can I get a seat assignment on a Basic Economy fare?

Your seat will be auto-assigned when you check in for a flight via delta.com or any Delta airport kiosk. You may check in via delta.com or a Delta airport kiosk 24 hours in advance to the flight's scheduled departure time. At check in you may purchase any available Preferred Seat.

What if a seat is not assigned to me at time of check in?

A seat request boarding pass will be issued which can be used to clear airport security. Your seat assignment will be assigned at the gate.
