Transfer Miles FAQs

Below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about transferring miles. If your question or comment has not been addressed, feel free to email us.

How will I know when the recipient received my transferred miles?

You will receive an email notification once the recipient's account has been credited. If you would like the recipient to receive an email notification you will have an option to enter their email address during the transaction.


What will my credit card statement show when billed?

The charge on your credit card statement will read DELTA SKYMILES PROGRAM.


Will I earn additional miles if I use my Delta SkyMiles Credit Card from American Express?

Yes. Miles earned by using your Delta SkyMiles Credit Card from American Express will post to your account 6–12 weeks after the end of each month. If you'd like to apply for the SkyMiles credit card, visit American Express.


Can I transfer miles over the phone?

No. Transferring miles is available only online through delta.com.


Can transferring miles help the recipient earn Medallion status?

No. Miles transferred do not count toward Medallion or Million Miler status. Transferred miles are redeemable for award travel, upgrades, and other non-travel benefits. Visit SkyMiles Membership Guide & Program Rules for details.


Will the miles I transfer to another member ever expire?

Miles will not expire as long as the recipient's account has some activity at least once every two years. Visit SkyMiles Membership Guide & Program Rules for details.


Can I get miles back if I change my mind?

All mileage transfer transactions are nonrefundable and cannot be reversed.


Is my order secure and is the personal information I provide confidential?

Your order is protected and personal information is treated confidentially in accordance with our Privacy & Security Policy.

Why does a SkyMiles account have to be 10 days or older and have a Total Lifetime Balance greater than zero before I can Gift or Transfer miles to them?

Due to an increase of fraudulent SkyMiles accounts being established, Delta has implemented restrictions in order to protect the value and security of the SkyMiles Program.
