What are Coach Choice Seats?

Delta customers are allowed to reserve certain aisle, window or exit row seats in the Coach cabin at flight check-in. For a nominal fee, passengers may select a Coach Choice Seat through Online Check-in at delta.com (starting 24 hours before departure) or at an airport self-service kiosk.


Are Coach Choice Seats priced per flight or each way? What would I pay if I have a connecting itinerary?

Coach Choice Seats are sold per flight. For example, if you're flying from Los Angeles to Philadelphia with a connection in Salt Lake City, you may purchase a Coach Choice Seat for the first flight to Salt Lake City and another Coach Choice Seat for the second flight to Philadelphia. Each flight is a separate fee.


Are the fees for Coach Choice Seats the same on each flight?

No. The fee for a Coach Choice Seat depends on the distance traveled. The charge for a flight from Charleston to Atlanta (259 miles) is less than a Coach Choice Seat on a flight from Atlanta to Honolulu (4,502 miles). Fees may also be calculated based on seat location.


How can I know the price of a Coach Choice Seat on my flight?

When a Coach Choice Seat is available for purchase during Online Check-in or at an airport self-service kiosk, the price appears on the seat shown in the seat map. The price is also confirmed to you when the seat is selected for purchase.


Can passengers reserve other seat assignments without charge?

Yes. Coach Choice Seats represent less than 10 percent of all seat assignments available on Delta-operated flights. The remaining 90 percent are assigned free of charge any time when or after purchasing a reservation.


Are Coach Choice Seats available on all aircraft types?

Yes. The only exclusions are non-jet aircraft and flights not offering advance seat selections.


How can I pay for Coach Choice Seats?

Credit cards are the only payment method accepted.  You will be asked for your credit card information when you purchase a Coach Choice Seat during Online Check-in at delta.com.  You may swipe your credit card through the card reader when a Coach Choice Seat is purchased at an airport self-service kiosk. 


If I am using an Award Travel ticket or a Pay with Miles ticket, am I eligible to purchase Choice Coach seats?

Yes. Coach Choice seats may be purchased by passengers traveling on tickets paid for with miles. Coach Choice seats cannot be paid for by miles or certificates.


Is a receipt provided for Coach Choice Seat purchases?

Yes. A receipt can be printed after Online Check-in at delta.com or an airport self-service kiosk once you complete your purchase.


Is there a membership fee to purchase Coach Choice Seats?

No. All passengers can select a Coach Choice Seat without paying a membership fee.


What if Coach Choice Seats are the only seats available at time of check-in?

If you do not wish to purchase a Coach Choice Seat, you can print a Seat Request card and be placed on the standby list to obtain a seat assignment. If a seat becomes available, you will receive a seat assignment and boarding pass at your flight departure gate.


Why might Coach Choice Seats not be available on my flight?

Coach Choice Seats represent less than 10 percent of all seat assignments, so availability is limited.

Are Coach Choice Seats available on all Delta partner operated flights?

No. Coach Choice Seats are available on Delta and Delta Connection® operated flights only.


Can I call Delta Reservations to purchase a Coach Choice Seat?

No. Coach Choice Seats can be purchased only during Online Check-in at delta.com or at an airport self-service kiosk.


Can I purchase a Coach Choice Seat from an agent at the airport or from my travel agent?

No. Coach Choice Seats can be purchased only during Online Check-in at delta.com or at an airport self-service kiosk.


Can SkyMiles® Medallions and SkyTeam® Elite members select Coach Choice Seats?

Yes. Medallions and SkyTeam Elite members and companions traveling on the same reservation may select Coach Choice Seats free of charge within 24 hours of departure during Online Check-in or at an airport self-service kiosk. Medallions and SkyTeam Elite members also have access to Preferred seats.


Can passengers traveling with a Medallion® or SkyTeam Elite Member also reserve Coach Choice Seats free of charge?

Passengers booked in the same reservation as a Medallion or SkyTeam Elite Member are eligible for complimentary Coach Choice Seats.


When a Medallion or SkyTeam Elite member books Award Travel for someone else who is not a Medallion or SkyTeam Elite member, can that passenger reserve Coach Choice Seats free of charge?

No. A non-Medallion/SkyTeam Elite passenger may reserve a Coach Choice Seat free of charge only if the Elite member is also traveling on the same reservation.


What is the difference between Preferred Seats and Coach Choice Seats?

Preferred Seats are select Economy Class seats that are set aside for SkyMiles Medallion and SkyTeam Elite members and are also available to full-fare paying passengers booked in the Y/B class of service. Medallion and Elite members may request these seats when making reservations. Coach Choice Seats are select seats that are available to all passengers for a fee. These seats may be purchased when passengers check in for eligible flights at delta.com or an airport kiosk within 24 hours of their scheduled departure time. Medallion and Elite members may select Coach Choice Seats at check-in at no cost.


Why is Delta introducing Coach Choice Seats when the airline already has a Preferred Seating program?

Only SkyMiles Medallion and SkyTeam Elite members have access to Preferred Seats. The introduction of Coach Choice Seats allows all passengers to select their seats and gives customers more control over their travel experience.


After purchasing a Coach Choice Seat, is there a refund if my flight plans change?

If you do not travel in the Coach Choice Seat you purchased, your credit card charge will be voided or refunded.


If I volunteer to take a later flight because my original flight is oversold, can I get a refund for my Coach Choice Seat purchase?

Yes. If you do not travel in the Coach Choice Seat you purchased, your credit card charge will be voided or refunded.


If I paid for a Coach Choice Seat but get reassigned to a non-Coach Choice Seat, what happens?

If you do not travel in the Coach Choice Seat you purchased, your credit card charge will be voided or refunded.


Is my Coach Choice Seat purchase refunded if I purchase a Coach Choice Seat and then get upgraded to First Class?

Yes. If you upgrade, your Coach Choice Seat charge will be voided or refunded.


How can I purchase a Coach Choice Seat if Online Check-in and self-service kiosks are not available from my departure airport?

Coach Choice Seats are not offered on flights when check-in is not available through delta.com or an airport self-service kiosk.
