Children Traveling Alone FAQs

Flying is an exciting adventure for kids, and we want to make it as secure and safe as possible. Check out these frequently-asked questions about our policies and procedures for children flying by themselves. If your question or comment has not been addressed, feel free to e-mail us or contact Reservations.

How do I make arrangements?

When making a reservation for your child, you should inform the agent that the child will be traveling alone and will need Delta's assistance. Our representatives will review the travel itinerary for your child as well as the policies and procedures you will need to know. Detailed information outlining the travel requirements will also be given to you when checking your child in for the flight.

What happens if my child's flight is delayed, diverted or otherwise disrupted?

If your child's flight is delayed, diverted or otherwise disrupted, we will contact the adult who was designated to meet the child at the final destination. If we are unable to reach the adult at the final destination, we will notify the adult in the originating city. On an international flight, we will attempt to notify both adults whom you have listed as contacts.

How do you care for children when they need to change planes or make a connecting flight?

Our services for children who qualify to change planes include going with them to the gate to make sure that they get on the right flight. We will also keep an eye on them between flights. During the busiest travel seasons, in some cities, we have a place called "Dusty's Den" where they can have some fun during layovers.

How can you ensure the safety of my child?

We put the safety and well-being of our passengers first and especially those of children traveling alone. Please read travel guidelines and safety restrictions under Children Traveling Alone.

My child takes medication. Will she be allowed to take her medication aboard the flight?

Yes, your child can take her medication, if she administers it herself. We cannot, however, administer medicine to your child.

I'm worried my child might lose his ticket during the flight. Can someone at Delta take care of it for him?

A Delta flight attendant will hold your child's ticket and other travel documents throughout the flight.

Do you charge a service fee?

Yes, we do charge a service fee on all Delta and Delta Connection® flights in addition to the full adult fare. Review Children Traveling Alone for a complete listing of fees.
