New York City

The Big Apple. Gotham. The City that Never Sleeps. It’s been immortalized in films like Breakfast at Tiffany’s, it became a character in Sex and the City, Seinfeld, and Friends, and every Saturday, someone yells, "Live from New York, it's Saturday night" from 30 Rockefeller Plaza. Flights to New York allow you to visit this city of eight million residents. Not only is it the home to film and television, it is the epicenter of fashion, food, theater and the arts.

There are five boroughs that make up New York City: the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and perhaps the most famous and recognizable, Manhattan. Each borough has its own identity thanks to distinctive neighborhoods and attractions. Hipsters have taken over Williamsburg in Brooklyn. People on the street look more akin to Portland natives than New Yorkers. The Bronx Zoo and Yankee Stadium are reasons enough to head north to the Bronx. The Staten Island Ferry passes right by the Statue of Liberty. And the most diverse place on the globe is Queens, where people from 100 different countries speak around 138 languages.

Fly to New York and Visit Manhattan!

To get the best view of the main island, start in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, where you’ll find designer boutiques on Fifth Avenue as well as the incomparable Metropolitan Museum of Art which boasts more than two million pieces of timeless art. Walk down to Midtown and catch a Broadway show, hit Times Square, have lunch at one of the many famous chefs’ eateries or have a quick bite (preferably a corned beef sandwich) at the Carnegie Deli. Take a stroll through Central Park, one of the world’s great natural metropolitan oases. Then it’s time for some shopping at Barneys, Bloomingdale’s or Saks Fifth Avenue.

For a night out in a town famous for it's nightlife, head downtown to one of the many chic restaurants and nightclubs in the Meatpacking District or Greenwich Village. (A friendly warning: reservations are likely required.) But don’t even think about leaving New York before seeing the city from atop the Empire State Building.

Whatever you do in New York, you’ll find that visiting the Big Apple is as interesting and diverse as its many inhabitants. And no matter how long your visit, it possibly won’t be long enough.
