Medical Emergencies

Life is unpredictable, and if you have to travel at the last minute because of a medical emergency in your family, we want to help ease your stress. Since you may not have time to qualify for an advance-purchase fare, we offer special fares for emergency situations.

Emergency medical fares are available only by calling Delta Reservations. Medical Fares are available when traveling within the 50 states, Canada, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Visit  Delta Cares™ for information on professional services that might assist you in a time of need.

Eligibility Medical Fares
This program is available to SkyMiles Members who need to travel due to a medical emergency concerning an immediate family member. If you are not currently a SkyMiles member, you may immediately enroll to qualify.

Note: There is no child domestic Medical Fare. Children will be ticketed at the same fare as an adult domestic medical fare or applicable child's fare, whichever is lower. An infant under the age of two may travel free of charge without a seat in the same compartment as the adult.

These are the circumstances under which a Medical Fare may be available to you:
1. Hospitalization/Hospice:

The ill family member is hospitalized or under registered hospice care. The family member may be at their residence, provided they are registered in a hospice program and that their status may be verified. The visiting passenger must travel to and from location of hospital or hospice or hospice home. (Exception: On a case-by-case basis, Delta may allow travel to a city other than the location of the hospital, but is nearby so passenger can meet family members and drive to the hospital.

Required Documentation: The name and relationship of the ill family member in the hospital/hospice or at home under hospice care.

2. Military Injury: A war-injured immediate family member or fiancée may travel to and from a military designated hospital.

Required Documentation: Name of fiancée in military hospital

3. Organ Donors: An organ donor (who does not have to be an immediate family member) is traveling to or from a hospital for organ transplant procedures.
