When it comes to fares and fees, we don't want there to be any unwanted surprises. Take the time to read through this section, so you know exactly what fees you can expect—and even better, what fees you can avoid altogether.
There are two types of fares you can choose between: refundable and nonrefundable.
Refundable fares offer maximum flexibility, and most do not require advance purchase.
Nonrefundable fares are priced for best value, but have more restrictions.
Basic Economy Fare Features
Delta's Basic Economy fares are our lowest-priced fares and are available in select markets in the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands. We're able to keep these fares low by limiting certain benefits found in other Delta Economy class fares. For example, Basic Economy fares are non refundable and no cancellations or changes may be made once the ticket is purchased. However, this fare is eligible for Risk Free Cancellation and our Same-day Travel Changes programs.
Advance seat selection
Advance seat selection is not available with Basic Economy fares. Seat assignments will be auto-assigned for Basic Economy fare holders during check in.
Child Fares
Delta does not offer discounted-infant or -child fares for travel within the U.S. Learn more about child ticketing needs.
Discounts Not Offered on Delta.com
Certain discounts or companion fares may apply to a selected itinerary but are not available at delta.com.

Air Travel
The taxes and fees you pay are based on several elements and therefore, can vary widely. The airports you are leaving from and arrive at and the country those airports are in, all affect your taxes and fees. Here are the charges you will see on your ticket, and their explanations:
Base Fare - our ticket price plus U.S. excise and departure/arrival taxes when they apply.
Taxes and carrier-imposed Fees - airport charges, government taxes and fees, and carrier-imposed surcharges.
Total Fare - base fare plus airport charges, government taxes and fees, and carrier imposed surcharges - the total price you pay.
If you need to make a voluntary change to your ticket, Change Fees may apply that are separate from the taxes and carrier-imposed fees listed here.

Hotels
Charges for Prepaid Reservations
In connection with facilitating your hotel transaction, the charge to your credit/debit card will include a charge for taxes and service fees. This charge includes an estimated amount to recover the amount we pay to the hotel in connection with your reservation for taxes owed by the hotel including, without limitation, sales and use tax, occupancy tax, room tax, excise tax, value added tax and/or other similar taxes.
The amount paid to the hotel in connection with your reservation for taxes may vary from the amount we estimate and include in the charge to you. This charge also includes an amount to cover service costs we incur in connection with handling your reservation. The charge for taxes and service fees varies based on a number of factors including, without limitation, the amount we pay the hotel, and the location of the hotel where you will be staying and may include profit that we retain.
We are not the vendor collecting and remitting taxes to the applicable taxing authorities. Our hotel suppliers, as vendors, include all applicable taxes in the amount billed to us and we pay over such amounts directly to the vendors. We are not a co-vendor associated with the vendor with whom we book or reserve our customer's travel arrangements. Taxability and the appropriate tax rate and the type of applicable taxes vary greatly by location.
Charges for Payment at Time of Checkout
We will not charge you for the hotel portion when you complete this transaction on delta.com. You will be charged directly by the hotel at the time of checkout for the estimated hotel total. In addition, you will be charged applicable taxes, including without limitation, sales and use tax, occupancy tax, room tax, excise tax, value added tax and/or other similar taxes, by the hotel you select.
Fares for travel originating in most of the world’s major industrialized countries are filed and quoted in the primary currency of those countries and in U.S. dollars for other countries. Eligible Pay with Miles customers can log in and choose to have fares quoted in U.S. dollars, regardless of the travel origin country.
Tickets purchased on delta.com will be reported to your credit/debit card-issuer as sales made in the country from which travel originates. For example, if you buy a ticket from Paris to New York, the transaction will be reported as a purchase made in France in Euros. In this example, if your credit/debit card billing address country is not France, your card issuer may assess a foreign transaction and/or currency conversion fee, as described in your cardholder agreement.
To comply with laws in Denmark, the Netherlands and Sweden, a separate internet ticketing fee will be charged for each ticket purchased using a credit/debit card with a billing address in these countries. The charge is DKK 40 for Denmark, EUR 10 for the Netherlands and SEK 50 for Sweden.
