En Route to Baggage Recovery
If your bags are delayed, notify one of our representatives. You will get a file reference number, which you will need to initiate claims or inquire about your things. You may be eligible for a bag fee rebate (see the next section) if your first or second paid checked bag(s) have been delayed for more than 12 hours after being reported to a baggage service agent/office. In the meantime, you can track the status of your delayed luggage.
If you have not received your bag within 12 hours of having reported it "delayed", you may be eligible for a rebate in the form of an electronic travel voucher (ETCV).
To be eligible for this rebate, you must have paid for your first and/or second bag. Excess bags (more than 2) and overweight/oversize or specialty items (like antlers, bikes, scuba gear, surfboards, etc.) are not eligible for compensation via this rebate. Rebates will be sent to you via email only. Simply complete the form below to request your rebate.
Reimbursement Information
Rebates will be either a $25 or $50 ETCV that can be used for future ticketing on Delta Air Lines. You can expect $25 ETCV if the first bag fee was paid and one bag is missing and $50 ETCV if the second bag fee was paid and two bags are missing (there is a maximum of $50 rebate per passenger).
We apologize for the mishandling of your baggage. To process your claim for delayed, damaged or lost baggage or missing items, complete this form. File Reference Numbers can be obtained from the Baggage Service Center.
If you have already submitted a mishandled baggage claim, you can upload the supporting documentation to process your claim. Enter the passenger's name and file reference number to begin.
File Reference Number
Your file reference number is 8 or 10-digit alphanumeric code located on the front of baggage information folder given to you by the Delta agent with whom you first reported your baggage delay.
Delta requires that receipts be presented for all reasonable expense reimbursements incurred due to the delay of your bag(s). Reasonable expenses generally are $50 for the first 24 hours and $25 per day for the next 4 days the bag is delayed. The guidelines for reasonable expenses are NOT daily limits or a cap and additional expenses may be incurred and should be handled on an individual basis up to the limit of liability. Any disbursements will be deducted from the final settlement if the bag is not located.
If your bag is still missing, you must submit the baggage claim form introduced above. Once you have entered your first name, last name and file reference number, choose the "Out of Pocket Expense" option on the form. The "Out of Pocket Expense" form is only for the reimbursement of incidental expenses incurred while your bag was delayed. Please upload your receipts at time of submission for consideration of reimbursement.
We deeply apologize for the inconvenience, but like lost socks in the washing machine, lost baggage happens, too. Please request a file reference number from a Delta representative as soon as possible so we can try to locate your baggage. If we are unable to locate your luggage, complete the form above in "Begin Your Claim" to submit your claim. In the meantime, you can track your bags using your bag tag number(s) or the file reference number given to you by a Delta representative.

From a Checked Bag
If you have discovered there are items missing from your bag, please report the missing property to a Delta representative immediately at 1-800-325-8224, or 1-404-209-3043 if the toll-free number is not available in your area. Items missing from checked baggage must be reported within 24 hours for domestic travel and seven days for international travel. Once a Delta representative has provided a reference number, please complete and submit the claim form above (select "damage/missing property claim") within 30 days from the date reported.
If a reference number was not given to you, please contact us using through our comment/ complaint form and choose "Baggage/Damaged Baggage" under "Tell Us About Your Experience".
Unchecked Baggage
If you've lost an unchecked item while onboard your Delta flight, in the Delta gate area or in a Delta Sky Club within the last 7 days, complete our lost item form, and we'll do our best to return your item to you.
If you've lost an unchecked item onboard a Delta flight, in the Delta gate area or in a Delta Sky Club within the last 7 days, we will make every effort to return it to you as quickly as possible. However, due to the large number of items lost around these parts, we will only contact you if we locate your item. For any items left at a TSA security checkpoint, please call the TSA at 866-289-9673, or visit tsa.gov for more information.
If you're missing an item from your checked luggage, please see the above section, "Missing Items".
Please fill out our form to report your lost unchecked item.
If you feel your baggage was damaged during a flight, bring it to the Delta Air Lines airport baggage office immediately after arrival. All damages will need to be reviewed and evaluated by the baggage service office personnel. If advised, complete the Baggage Claim Form above, in "Begin Your Claim", as soon as possible. You must report your claim within 24 hours for U.S. travel and seven days for international travel.
If we are repairing your damaged baggage, you can easily track the progress of your bag’s repair by visiting our partner site, Rynn's Luggage, at Netbags.com.
Normal Wear & Tear
In the course of normal handling during travel, your luggage may show evidence of wear and tear. Like most major airlines, we don't accept liability for normal damage to checked luggage, such as:
Random Search Damage
If the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has made a random search of your bag, you will find written notification inside your luggage or a seal outside of your luggage, informing you of such. If you feel they damaged your bag during a random inspection, you can contact them at 1-866-289-9673.
Check on your repair status here.
