Introducing the 2015 SkyMiles Program.

As part of our ongoing efforts to improve your travel experience on Delta, we’re making updates to the SkyMiles program. Starting January 1, 2015, miles will be earned based on ticket price to better reward customers who spend more with Delta. We’re also creating more redemption options and increasing Award Seat availability at the lowest price points.

What's New with How You Earn Miles?

Miles for Delta flights¹ will be earned based on ticket price instead of distance flown. So when you pay a higher price, you’ll be

rewarded with more miles—up to 75,000 per ticket. This update will take effect for flights flown on or after January 1, 2015:

Earning Miles

You’ll earn miles toward Award Travel based on ticket price and your SkyMiles status.

Miles Don't Expire

Just like before, your existing miles and any earned going forward will not expire.

EARN EVEN MORE

U.S. and select international Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card Members will continue to earn up to an additional 2 miles per dollar (or corresponding earning rate) on Delta purchases with the Card.

Just a Reminder

Redeemable miles differ from Medallion® Qualification Miles (MQMs), which are based on distance flown. The way you earn Medallion status is not changing. See the “Medallion Program” section for more details.

The number of miles shown above does not include additional miles a Card Member may earn on the Delta SkyMiles Credit Card. Learn more.

1 All flights not marketed and not ticketed by Delta will earn mileage based on a percentage of the distance flown as determined by the fare class paid. Learn more.

Certain tickets, including but not limited to bulk, consolidator, cruise, vacation packages (including Delta Vacations® packages), inclusive tour and other tickets where the fare is not disclosed, will earn miles based on a percentage of distance flown as determined by the fare class paid as published at delta.com/exceptionfares at the time of travel.

What's New with How You Redeem Miles?

You said it should be easier to redeem miles. We heard you, so we’re making Award Travel more flexible and giving you more

options than ever for flights booked on or after January 1, 2015.

How Will These Updates Affect

Medallion Status?

The updates to the 2015 SkyMiles program will not impact how you earn Medallion status.

MILES VS. MQMs

Redeemable miles earned toward Award Travel differ from Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs). MQMs are used to determine Medallion status and will continue to be based on distance flown.

MQDs

Starting in January 2014 and applicable for U.S. members only, Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs), which measures your annual spending on Delta flights, became an additional component that is required to earn Medallion status.

ROLLOVER MQMs

MQMs accrued above your earned status threshold will continue to roll over to the next qualification year.

BENEFITS

Benefits like Unlimited Complimentary Upgrades, waived baggage fees and Priority Check-In will not change. Learn more about Medallion benefits here.

FAQs

WHEN WILL THE CHANGES HAPPEN?

Flights flown on or after January 1, 2015, will earn redeemable miles based on the ticket price. Also beginning January 1, 2015, members may book One-Way Awards, take advantage of Miles + Cash Award options and enjoy new Award Travel shopping.

WHAT’S CHANGING WITH HOW I WILL EARN MILES?

You will earn redeemable miles based on your ticket price (base fare plus any carrier-imposed surcharges) instead of distance flown. This change applies to Delta-marketed (flight number with a “DL” airline code) or Delta-ticketed (the ticket number will begin with “006”) flights.

IF I PURCHASE A DELTA FLIGHT IN A CURRENCY OTHER THAN U.S. DOLLARS, HOW MANY MILES WILL I EARN?

For flights purchased in a currency other than U.S. dollars (USD), the currency will be converted to USD based on the IATA 5-day currency exchange rate at the time of ticketing. Then the same mileage earn rates per USD will be applied.

HOW WILL I EARN MILES FOR PARTNER AIRLINE FLIGHTS?

Flights marketed and ticketed by Delta’s partner airlines will earn mileage based on a percentage of distance flown and fare class paid. More details will be announced later in 2014.

WHEN WILL THE 2015 AWARD CHARTS BE AVAILABLE?

The 2015 Award chart for travel from the U.S. (excluding Hawaii) and Canada is available online. It is effective for new Award Tickets booked beginning January 1, 2015. As you’ll see, there are no price increases to any of our lowest redemption levels. Additionally, of the 44 Award level pricing changes, more than 95% represent decreased mileage requirements. Award charts for travel from other regions will be available later this year.

WHAT HAPPENS TO MY EXISTING MILES?

Your existing miles are safe and are no different from the miles you will earn in 2015. In fact, going forward, your current miles will be even more valuable since you’ll be able to use them more easily with these new redemption options.

Terms & Conditions

EARNING MILES:

The following will apply to miles (also known as redeemable miles) earned for flights flown on or after January 1, 2015, regardless of ticket purchase date.  Miles are earned toward Award Travel and non-air redemptions and differ from Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) earned toward Medallion status:

For Delta-marketed (flight numbers that include the “DL” airline code) or Delta-ticketed (featuring a ticket number beginning with “006”) flights, SkyMiles members will earn miles based on ticket price, at the rate of 5 miles per U.S. Dollar (USD) spent. Ticket price eligible for mileage accrual includes base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges, but excludes government-imposed taxes and fees. Members with earned Medallion status will earn an additional Medallion mileage bonus per USD spent based on their status at the time of travel. Silver Medallion members will earn 2 additional miles per USD (for a total of 7 miles per USD). Gold Medallion members will earn 3 additional miles per USD (for a total of 8 miles per USD). Platinum Medallion members will earn 4 additional miles per USD (for a total of 9 miles per USD). Diamond Medallion members will earn 6 additional miles per USD (for a total of 11 miles per USD). Members who receive complimentary Medallion status are not eligible to receive the Medallion mileage bonus for the complimentary Medallion year (excludes members who receive complimentary annual Medallion status through the Million Miler™ program or Choice Benefits gifted Medallion status) unless the member earns Medallion status through the required MQMs or MQSs and MQDs, in which case the mileage bonus for the earned tier is applied. For example, if a member is awarded complimentary Gold Medallion status, then earns Silver Medallion status by earning the required MQMs or MQSs and MQDs, the Silver Medallion mileage bonus will be applied.

Miles earned per segment will be calculated based on a prorated amount of the total ticket price eligible for mileage accrual and will not be subject to minimum mileage accrual.  Each passenger will earn a maximum of 75,000 miles per reservation, inclusive of any Medallion mileage bonuses or class-of-service bonuses.  Promotional mileage bonuses will not count toward the 75,000 maximum mileage accrual per person per reservation unless otherwise stated in the promotion’s terms and conditions.

For flights marketed or ticketed by Delta and purchased in a currency other than USD, the base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges will be converted to USD based on the IATA 5-day currency exchange rate at the time of ticketing. Then the appropriate mileage accrual rate per USD will be applied and miles credited to the member’s SkyMiles account once travel is complete. Additional base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges collected as a result of ticket reissue will be converted to USD, and the appropriate mileage accrual rate applied, based on the IATA 5-day currency exchange rate at the time of reissue.

Flights marketed and ticketed by Delta’s partner airlines will earn miles based on a percentage of distance flown as determined by the fare class paid as published at delta.com/partnerairlines at the time of travel.

For itineraries ticketed by Delta’s partner airlines that contain both partner-marketed segments and Delta-marketed segments, the partner-marketed segments will earn miles based on a percentage of the distance flown as determined by the fare class paid as published at delta.com/partnerairlines at the time of travel, and the Delta-marketed segments will earn miles based on the total base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges prorated as a percentage of total distance flown.

If an exception fare (as described in the preceding sentence) is eligible for a Medallion mileage bonus, Silver Medallion members will earn a 40% bonus on miles awarded or distance flown (whichever is less), Gold Medallion members will earn a 60% bonus, Platinum Medallion members will earn an 80% bonus and Diamond Medallion members will earn a 120% bonus.

Award, Miles + Cash, Pay with Miles Economy Class, free, barter, pass travel and certain other tickets are not eligible for mileage accrual. BusinessElite®, First or Business Class tickets purchased through Pay with Miles will earn miles for the portion of the base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges remaining and paid in currency after miles are applied to the ticket total.

All other ancillary purchases or fees do not count toward earning miles, including but not limited to checked baggage fees, Economy Comfort™ and Preferred Seats purchases, Priority Boarding, Delta Sky Club memberships, Wi-Fi passes, in-flight food and beverage purchases, in-flight entertainment, unaccompanied minor fees, pet travel fees, Mileage Booster™ or mileage purchases, ticket change fees, Direct Ticketing Charges (DTC), same-day confirmed or standby fees, Administrative Service Charges (ASC), External Reissue Charges (ERC) and Standby Upgrades.

Mileage Comparison Calculator is illustrative for Delta-marketed flights only and actual mileage earned may vary.  Any calculations are estimates only, and Delta may without prior notice elect to use alternative methods when calculating mileage earned.  Calculations are based on a round-trip flight and are accurate for non-stop flights only. Mileage for Current SkyMiles Program (flights flown through December 31, 2014) does not include class-of-services bonuses. Mileage estimates for city area codes, such as “NYC” or “CHI”, are approximate and will vary from actual mileage earned for specific airports in that city area. Mileage Comparison Calculator results may be provided for markets that are not served by Delta. The number of miles shown in the Mileage Comparison Calculator does not include additional miles a Card Member may earn on the Delta SkyMiles Credit Card.

REDEEMING MILES:

The following will apply to mileage redemptions for new Award Tickets booked on or after January 1, 2015:

Additional fare rules and restrictions may apply to One-Way Awards.

Miles + Cash Award Tickets may not be available in all markets, all cabins or to all customers.  Additional fare rules and restrictions may apply. Prices shown are illustrative only. Prices vary by market and are subject to change without notice. Cash portion of Miles + Cash Award Tickets is non-refundable and may be subject to additional taxes and fees. Miles + Cash Award Tickets are not eligible to earn miles, Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs), Medallion Qualification Segments (MQSs) or Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs).

All delta.com designs shown are illustrative only.

Taxes and fees for Award Travel are the responsibility of the passenger and must be paid at the time the ticket is issued. The payment of any taxes, fees, and other government-, airport- or carrier-imposed charges is the responsibility of the passenger.

EARNING MEDALLION STATUS:

Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) earned toward Medallion status are based on distance flown and fare class paid as published at delta.com for Delta-marketed or partner-marketed flights. A minimum of 500 MQMs will be awarded per segment for Delta-marketed flights, even if distance flown is less than 500 miles.  Award, Miles + Cash, Pay with Miles Economy Class, free, barter, pass travel and other tickets not eligible for mileage accrual do not earn MQMs.

2For full terms and conditions for earning Medallion status, Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs) and the MQD Waiver, please visit delta.com/mqds.

MQD Waiver:  Effective January 1, 2014, if the Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs) threshold is not met for a qualification year, you can still qualify for Medallion status if you have earned the required Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) or Medallion Qualification Segments (MQSs) and make at least $25,000 in Eligible Purchases within that Qualification Year on your Eligible Card. A Qualification Year is from January 1 to December 31 of a given year. The close of the Qualification Year is December 31, without regard to the time of the year that the credit card account is opened. This means that for the first year of Card Membership, the Card Member’s Eligible Purchases period may be less than twelve months.

Eligible Purchases means purchases for goods and services minus returns and other credits. Eligible Purchases do not include fees, interest charges, balance transfers, cash advances, purchases of travelers’ checks, purchases or reloading of prepaid cards, or purchases of other cash equivalents.

Eligible Purchases made by Additional Card Members on the Basic Card Member’s Eligible Card will count toward the Eligible Purchase threshold. For purposes of calculating the Eligible Purchase threshold, Eligible Purchases will be combined across multiple Eligible Cards of the Basic Card Member if those Card accounts are linked to the same SkyMiles number. Eligible Cards are the following: Delta SkyMiles Options Credit Card, Delta SkyMiles Credit Card, Gold Delta SkyMiles Credit Card, Platinum Delta SkyMiles, Delta Reserve Credit Card, Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card, Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card, Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card and Delta Reserve for Business Credit Card from American Express.  This benefit extends to Basic Card Members only (Additional Card Members are not eligible). Offer terms and conditions subject to change.
