Delta Air Lines and our employees have a civic obligation to give back to the communities where we live and work. As part of our Force for Global Good, Delta Air Lines, the Delta Air Lines Foundation and our employees contribute time, energy and millions of dollars to a host of philanthropic causes.
Delta employees have partnered with Habitat for Humanity to build homes for those in need. In the past year, more than 2,000 Delta employees worked to give 10 deserving families safe and decent shelter. Delta has built more than 100 homes through our partnership with Habitat for Humanity. In 2014, Delta employees built homes in the Philippines as part of the annual Delta Global Build.
Delta is one of the top donors of blood to the American Red Cross, a partnership that has spanned more than 70 years. Last year, Delta employees gave more than 6,000 pints of blood.
Delta employees consistently give more than $1.8 million annually to the United Way to help those less fortunate in our communities.
Each year, Delta employees raise millions of dollars for organizations such as the American Cancer Society, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, CARE and Covenant House to fight cancer, and other diseases, homelessness and poverty. Last year, Delta employees and customers raised more than $1 million for the American Cancer Society and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Delta employees teach students financial literacy, entrepreneurship, business readiness and economics through our partnership with Junior Achievement. In New York, for example, high school students spent time "job shadowing" Delta employees to learn what it takes to succeed in the business world.
Delta Air Lines has partnered with KaBOOM! to build four playgrounds – two in Seattle (Auburn Parks and Recreation and University Heights), one in Los Angeles (KIPP Empower Academy) and one in Minneapolis-St. Paul (Hiawatha Academies-Northrop). More than 100 Delta volunteers participate in each Build to help build a playground in just one day helping to provide the gift of play to thousands of children.
Whether it is learning to swim or attending after school tutoring sessions, many children have benefitted from Delta’s partnership with YMCAs in our communities. Delta played a lead role in the capital campaign of the YMCA of the Rockaways in New York, an area damaged by Hurricane Sandy.
Through our partnership with True Colors Theatre Company, Delta inspires kids to use their imagination and creativity to perform at the August Wilson monologues competition held annually in New York.
Delta employees support the USO, the Marine Toys for Tots campaign and the Fisher House Foundation. For example, in the past year, more than $250,000 in cash and thousands of toys and bikes were donated to the Marine Toys for Tots campaign
Whether it is supporting the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, the Japan Society, the National Association of Chinese Americans or the One Hundred Black Men of America, Delta employees celebrate diversity.
Delta employees are committed to operating in a sustainable manner and are always looking for new ways to reduce our environmental footprint. Some of our most recent efforts include improving fuel efficiency of our aircraft and ground support equipment, reducing and recycling operational waste, evaluating alternative fuels, providing commute options for employees, and creating opportunities for customers to offset greenhouse gas emissions associated with their flights through the Nature Conservancy, In addition, Delta has built five Habitat for Humanity homes, the most recent one in Seattle, using funds generated from onboard recycling initiatives.
Through Delta’s partnership with many community food banks, Delta employees have fed thousands of hungry people hot meals while warming their hearts.
Through Delta’s partnership with the Children’s Miracle Network of hospitals Champions program, Delta employees bring smiles to the parents of kids who have a remarkable medical story.
