Below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about Pet Travel. If your question or comment has not been addressed, feel free to e-mail us.

Can my pet travel in the cabin with me?

Yes, see Pet Travel Options for details.

Why can't I check my pet as baggage during the summer?

Delta has placed an embargo (a stoppage) on accepting pets as checked bags during hot weather. Extreme heat (85F or 29C) during the summer months can put animals in a life threatening situation onboard our aircraft. The embargo is in the best interest of the pet.

What are the dates of the embargo on pets as checked baggage?

May 15 through September 15.

Does the embargo on pets as checked baggage apply to Delta Connection carriers?

The embargo applies to all Delta, Delta Connection® (Atlantic Southeast Airlines, Comair, SkyWest), Delta Shuttle®, and Delta codeshare flights.

Are there any exceptions to the embargo on pets as checked baggage?

Military or Government personnel with return orders and traveling with pets from a foreign country or Hawaii to the United States for duty may check their pets as baggage.

Are pets carried into the cabin included in the embargo?

No.

Why will Delta allow a commercial shipper to transport pets during the embargo?

Commercial animal shippers have the means to keep animals comfortable in extreme heat. They can also be more flexible with flight schedules when shipping these animals.
