General Information

Variation Wheels is Delta Cargo's solution for the transportation of automobiles when time is of the essence.

This solution is ideal for show, prototype, new, used, and race vehicles. It is a closed chain of custody transport, which means processes are followed and there is always a watchful eye on the shipment.

Drop-off/Pick-up

You need to take your shipment to the local cargo facility for shipping and pick it up at the local cargo facility at the destination.

Shipments must be accepted at least 360 minutes prior to the scheduled flight departure. Acceptance starts after the air waybill and all Delta and government mandated inspections have been completed.

Restrictions

  • Shipments must be pre-booked and must be tendered 6 hours (360 minutes) prior to flight departure.


  • Dimensions and weight must not exceed aircraft limitations as well as limitation per vehicle.


  • Shipments must be less than the following dimensions:

Length 460cm (181 inches)
Width 223cm (88 inches)
Height 160cm (63 inches)
Wheel Base 280cm (110 inches)
Weight 4,490kgs (9,900lbs)


  • Dangerous Goods shipments are only accepted at certain cargo facilities, which include all facilities below.


  • The following cities are in Delta's Variation Wheels network:


  • Atlanta Berlin Detroit
    Frankfurt Los Angeles Munich
    New York (JFK) Stuttgart  


    Booking

    Variation is required to be pre-booked.  You may book your shipment by calling the Cargo Call Center at 1.800.DLCARGO (1.800.352.2746).

    Special Handling

    Delta Cargo will monitor each shipment with surveillance cameras while in the warehouse.

    Shipments are kept in a secure storage area within the cargo facility

    Dangerous Goods, including Variation Wheels, are accepted by specially trained Dangerous goods Acceptance Agents.

    Documentation

    • Each shipment must have a Vehicle Inspection Sheet accompany the AWB.


    • Dangerous Goods documentation must be filled out with each shipment.


    • Shipments must be clearly labeled.


    Regulations

    All international shipments will follow IATA Rules for shipping.

    All Dangerous Goods shipments will follow IATA Dangerous Goods regulations including shipments containing gasoline and diesel. The shipper is responsible for compliance with these regulations.

    Shipping Tips

    • Tender shipments at least 6 hours (360 minutes) prior to flight departure.


    • Ensure all documentation, including vehicle inspection sheet, is complete.

    Packaging

    • All shipments will be wrapped in order to protect the shipment from various elements.


    • Customers may tender shipments with their own car cover or wrap.

    • Cargo straps will be used to secure all wheels of the shipment.


    • Vehicle's fuel tank must contain no more than on quarter (1/4) of a full tank of gasoline or ion the case of diesel powered vehicles, no more than three quarters (3/4) of a full tank.
