Cargo Claims

We now offer freight claim forms online to assist our cargo customers in the claims process. Air freight that has been lost, delayed, or damaged, must first be reported by the shipper or consignee (receiver) to the local cargo office before completing a claim form. All claims must be submitted on approved Delta Cargo claim forms.

U.S. Domestic Claims

All claims, including claims for overcharges, must be submitted to Delta within sixty (60) days after the date of acceptance of the shipment by Delta. Damage and/or loss discovered by the consignee after a clear receipt must be reported in writing at the destination within fifteen (15) days after delivery of the shipment. While awaiting inspection by Delta, the consignee must hold the shipping container and its contents in the same condition as when the damage was discovered. Before a claim will be considered by Delta, transportation charges applicable to the shipment must be paid.

International Claims

For international shipments, a written notification of a problem must be submitted to Delta within:

  • any damage discovered within 14 days after the delivery;
  • any delays within 21 days after delivery;
  • any loss or non-delivery within 120 days from the date of the issue of the air waybill.

All claims must be filed within 120 days of the airbill date.
